Ball joints are shot at only 80,000 ks turbo problems and can never find any parts for it as are all mixed up with merc parts and VW parts , biggest waste of my time and money gone down the drain never buying this type of jeep again cant find MAF sensor or turbo/intercooler pipes or any answers to anything

that's your opinion

when you buy a used car, you take a risk

ball joints are a known issue - couple of hundred and you can replace them with MOOG

turbo issues - stop trying to save money by fixing it yourself, take it to a specialist or replace http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/GT1749V-...rbocharger-/151116618615?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item232f409b77&_uhb=1

i LOVE the diesel engine, best bit about the Patriot....styling is by a 6 year old, build quality is very average, it was designed and built down to a price, but it's (IMO) a cheap SUV that does most things

if you think you can buy a used car and then spend nothing more, you are in fairy land. it's 6 years old, been driven by who knows who. up to you. what do you want to do with it?

Well im having it looked at tomorrow by a indipendant diesel specialist as taking it to jeep they just giving me the run around and worst customer service ive ever had, so depending on the outcome by the specilast will decide weither to keep it or trade it in for something else

Last time I took it to jeep they didnt even bother to pop the hood or even look at the turbo all they did was plug there scan tool in and tell me there was a turbo overboost error charged me $130 bux and bacicly handed the keys back with no solution to the problem

Man I miss having a turbo, I would have a diesel here in the US in a heart beat. Imagine a FDII patriot with the torque of the diesel engine, and 30+mpg... It would be amazing.

agree with harold 100%, a little research and you can replace the ball joints inexpensively with a good aftermarket part. Ball joins on a lot of chryslers are known to be a weak area, also on fords, chevys, toyotas, hondas, etc. budget cars are built to a... oh that's right, budget!

Turbo issues suck, but a flat out replacement for $600 bucks is NOTHING last time I had to replace a turbo, cost me $1600 US! and that was me doing the work.

your best bet is to find an independent mechanic you trust. They have access to tools/manuals/part suppliers/etc. that the normal person doesn't have access to.

I do a lot of work myself, but if I struggle with something and talk to my mechanic about it, I'll often buy my parts through him, that way he makes a little, and I pay about what i would buying at any other local parts shop. (i don't work on my jeep, its still under warranty, and has been trouble free, my olds alero on the other hand...)

Yeah taken it there multiable times overal has cost me $400 doing diagnosis and tests and still no solutuon and rude staff and arragant managers at the dealership so never taking there again

as i said in your other thread, take it to a vw audi specialist.he will find out the cause and redirect you to a turbo speciaist if needed.if it is th maf,the vw specialist will solve it.at this level it is not a do it yourself thing.
i can tell you this is my fourth turbo diesel vehicle.i only had one turbo issue with one of them and had it replaced.my dad had the tubo rebuilt and the maf sensor changed on a vw bora tdi he had in the past.
these things have a lot to do with driving style and habbits, with diesel fuel quality, the oil you use,how you manage service intervals, changing filters on time, etc.
i can tell you,for instance that the book says to change oil at 15000 km,oil filter at every oil change, air filter every 30000km and diesel filter every 60000km.experience taught me that changing all filters every 15000km will spare me any troubles.i only pay 40 eur extra but have fresh air and diesel filters and it pays in the long run. no turbo or maf issues,no injector isues, and i have 145000 km on the clock.
i'm not saying you're not taking proper care of your pat.just giving you tips i picked up from experienced people on the way.

I have had a few bad batches of diesel go through my pat and had to change the fuel filter alot earler as it became very very sluggish and shuddering and was right back to normal after I changed it so maby thats wheres my problems had started?

you didn't say you'd been going to the main dealer - they are full of $hit - haven't met a main dealer that knows anything

your specialist should be able to help
+1. You're better off asking the checkout girl at the local supermarket than the main dealer.

Independent every time.

It's a very common engine, fitted in lots of different makes of vehicle.

Engine bay layout Not Patriot but similar.

Drove to work this morning took off from the lights and heard a whooshing noise and can hear the turbo wine louder and air rushing out bit of smoke out the back but not alot turbo still spools so now I think a hose has come off or split not having a good day :/

Booked in first thing monday morning fingers crosed its not gonna hit my wallet to hard to get fixed ill keep you guys posted
check the hose in front of the engine,at the back of the radiator.
it goes into the manifold turbo inlet coming from the intercooler.
it tends to split at tke curved end by the manifold inlet.
a few guys changed it,including myself.
it makes a hush sound when you accelerate and you lose power if the split is huge.
if the split isn't big,you can solve it with ductape for a while.that"s what i did for the 2 weks i had to wait for the order.
paid 70 eur for it.
worth checking before you go deeper.

Ok so ive taken most of the hoses off and or checked for splits and cant find any problems but should there be oil in all the pipes there seems to be oil comming out of the pipe that goes into the egr valve is that normal?
