It is a programmable feature on the EVIC. Took me 15 minutes of reading the manual and 5 minutes on the car but it is off.

disengaging the remote-lock horn?

I would rather not have the horn beep every time I lock the doors with the key fob. I've followed the directions in the owner's manual. The horn still beeps.

Followed the directions with the second key. The horn still beeps.

I thought maybe I was just misunderstanding the directions. I had my wife read and follow the directions.

Has anybody on this forum been able to disable the remote lock horn?

Thanks,

yeah, you need to take it to the dealer. For the longest time they were saying that they couldn't do it and Daimler Chrysler has now informed them that if you want it done that the dealership has to do it. I guess it's just a matter of going into the computer and turning it off. I went today and they did it for me while I was getting my oil changed.

turning off "sound horn on lock" feature

I would rather not have the horn sound when I use the keyfob to lock my new Patriot. Despite following the directions on page 26 in the owner's manual, I have not been able to reprogram the remote lock so that the horn does not sound.

Am I missing something?

Thanks,

it's a problem with all of them. My limited wouldn't do it either. If you don't have the EVIC then you have to take it to the dealership. DCX has told them that they're the ones that have to disable this feature. I had them do it yesterday while I was getting my oil changed.

Yay!

My dealer disabled the 'honk on lock'! It really can be done, if you've got access to the computer and spend time talking with DC support.

hey just to let you guys know on my jeep that i just got thursday
im guessing they got the bugs worked out of the being able to turn the horn off with with computer yourself
cause i just turned mine off thought i would let everyone know thats getting theirs in the future
cause that is the loudest horn for locking doors EVER

Want it to operate the way it is advertised!

So what if I don't want to PERMANENTLY disable the loud horn and lights when I lock my car with the keyfob? When our winters get bad and the wind howls, having a loud "chirp is an advantage. But during the summer, I don't want the noise and lights when I pull up to the trail to do my bird watching. Nor do I want to wake the neighbors. I don't have the EVIC on my car. How about it Jeep? Make my Patriot Sport and keyfob work they way the manual says they are supposed to work!

If notin works, i'm thinking to add a big capacitor with a resistor in parrallel with the horn so it will take like half a sec to charge the cap before your horn can honk. This way you wont have the little honk on lock and it will take like half a sec to hear the horn when your gonna use it. (the little resistor is gonna discharge the cap when not in use)

Interesting idea Claudius. However I agree with EngTech. For a vehicle that is versatile like the Patriot, we should have the ability to turn that loud horn off. There are times when you don't want to draw attention with the horn.

I am wondering if the keyfob method (from the manual) only works after a certain software update.

My Patriot was made on 3/7/2007 and there have been a couple software updates since, so I wonder if the procedure will work afterwards.

I'm going to schedule the updates this week so we'll see..

Is it a Sport? I think there is a problem with the Sport. Seems like no one knows including dealership on how to turn it off. If it's a Limited I'm hearing you can turn it off, just got to read up on it.
Me and my friend both have the sport and had no problem turning off the horn honk. maybe it's an alarm thing, we both don't have the alarm or the EVAC on our sports. guess were lucky!:smiley_thumbs_up:

I ended up going to the dealer and - after the tech himself couldn't get the horn to shut off by following the manual instructions- he did a computer connect with one of their factory computer interface units to turn the horn chirp off- problem solved.
I thought it was just me or my Patriot, but from reading the posts it sure seems the manual instructions just don't function as advertised- but the good news is a dealer is able to cycle it off.

Me too. No alarm, no EVIC, I got the honk off no problem with the instructions in the manual....

Mine was built in July... so they also may have work out some bugs since the start

Good luck.

I took me a couple of tries to get it to work, but I finally got it to disengage the horn. Perhaps it is just twitchy with the 4 second count. Mine was built in June. It looks like at very least if you have a summer build, it should work. If it doesn't, whisper sweet nothings to you Patriot and perhaps that will work! :D
