I've been to Iowa a couple times to visit family.. and there's a lot of nothing there on the roads so I'd imagine it's hard for you to see new vehicles :D I remember whenever I went to Iowa seeing cars that were 5-10 years old was common.... so it might take a while for someone there to buy one. In Southeast Michigan... more than 50% of cars I see are no more than 2 years old and most of them from the Big 3.

It's resemblance is to the Nissan Juke. My Patriot's comfortable and sporty, and looks more like a Cherokee than that disgrace. Hence the suggestion they give out bazookas for when folks realize what they've done. I'd take the 2011-present Compass over the Cherokar, because even though the Compass looks a bit too street savvy, it's got the guts and heart of a Patriot with the looks of a mini Grand Cherokee. I wonder how to convince Fiat to take the new menace back to the drawing board(or withdraw it altogether)?
perhaps if you looked past the sheetmetal(which I've realized a lot of people don't.. if they don't like the outside they think the rest of the car is junk as well... which is not fair way to judge a vehicle, but hey it's how society works right and we're all okay with it :) ) you'd realize the trailhawk could out perform the compass and the patriot off road.

dishonored? So a nice interior, more power, great driving dynamics, and a technologically advanced 4x4 system dishonors the boxy old cherokee just because it doesn't look like a boxy cherokee?

Yes, the Cherokee XJ is a legend. The new version, Fiajeep better fits or AMC Eagle. Glad ya like it, are you new to the Jeep World ? ;)

I'm not saying they didn't build it to outperform a vehicle that actually looks the part, but they should've made the Cherokar to actually look like what it's been named for: an actual Cherokee. Yeah, it's got a flashy interior, and plenty of toys, but ya know what? For a Jeep, I actually prefer my Patriot FD1 to that, because it's got crank windows, manual mirrors, etc. And, it actually looks like a Jeep, not a Juke. Not only that, but in my time trucking, I went all over the country, and for the 20+ truckloads of Cherokars I saw, there were only maybe ten(if that) actually driving on the road, probly more like three or four. More than half of these were sporting manufacturer plates, leading me to believe that nobody wants this vehicle because it does not live up to the legendary name it bears. The name Jeep has stood for the rather blocky, most off-road capable vehicles in the world for more than 70 years, and these vehicles have stood the test of time, being popular in many different areas because of that American goodness. Now they do this? It's an insult to the trail-rated, and to every dirt road in this country.

Pretty much.

It's not a bad vehicle, but they could have introduced a new name. The Cherokee wise a solid zxle truckster, more aki. To the JKU than to the Santa Fe, as is the "new" Cherokee. I might show my age, but it was shades of the "new Nova".

I think my biggest beef with this ride is the swoopy lines at the bottom of the side windows... very "foreign" "crossover" looking. If not for the grill, it could be made by anyone.

Frankly, I bought my Patriot for my wife's daily driver... and it serves the needs of rural commuting well. I would entertain the notion of even considering one for her when and if we replace the Patriot (or hand it down to a family member, as we typically do). That said, having more off road prowess than a Patriot does not a Cherokee make.

Made up statistics ftw. Seeing vehicles 5-10 years old is common everywhere except in the areas rich people reside. I don't think southeast MI counts as some elite area, obviously, if these horrid looking Cherokees are plentiful. My Patriot is probably one of the crappier vehicles in my work parking lot to tell you how backwards and behind IA is. :icon_rolleyes:

My comment was not geared towards class ranking and such, just in my area where I live, there are a lot of Ford Engineers who have the option of company lease every year or so, same with GM and Chrysler employees, all i'm saying is that people cycle through cars quicker here because they are mostly leased vehicles.

And of course, my stats aren't backed up or accurate in any sense, just a ballpark estimate of what i've observed.

The high volume seller will be the Latitude, not the trail hawk, and I can see where Jeep die hards (enthusiasts) would have a problem with this vehicle, and frankly, there is nothing wrong with that IMHO because the Cherokee is geared towards buyers who are cross shopping it with the Rav4, Escape, CR-V etc. And this is a HUGE market(CUV/small SUV market) that's been growing exponentially in the past couple years.

Now, Chrysler ACTUALLY has a competitor for these vehicles, don't get me wrong, I'm guessing 90% of Cherokees sold will NEVER leave the pavement, because they will be daily drivers/grocery getters etc.

But Jeep gives you that option with the TrailHawk to have an offroad worthy daily driver where you don't have to compromise on comfort, and that's what I believe I think they did right, and eventually end up selling A LOT of these units, the only people shunning this vehicle is Jeep die hards I've noticed... but they are selling well...

I took my sister's 300 in for service at our local Chrysler dealer and I was in the waiting, I saw a Cherokee latitude sitting in the showroom, I thought what the heck I'll go check it out.

As I got closer to it, it became more appealing to me, there was a salesman nearby, and I asked him a couple questions, I asked him how the 2.4 is with the 9 speed, and he said it had a surprising amount of get up and go, and he said they mostly sold 2.4s compared to the 3.2 V6.

He said despite the delay with the tranny problems, they sold a lot of units in the first month. He also mentioned that Trailhawks don't sit around for awhile, they are gone within a couple of days, I then asked him if there was a Trailhawk they had on the lot, he said that one had just been delivered this morning and was out back, I kindly asked if I take a look at it...

One of the service guys took me out back to the trailhawk, and boy it looked good, I mean those red tow hooks and polished black wheels with inserts and the interior was gorgeous.. .I was really blown away.

The cherokee in person.. is a lot smaller than what you think it is(you have to remember it's on a Dart platform) and also it's a lot more appealing IMO.

I think Chrysler got it MOSTLY right with this car, leaving the customers to determine if the front fascia is a deal killer or not... for me it's not, I think it's something different and wild, not cookie cutter like a lot of other CUVs.

Anyways all I'm saying is, if it wasn't for the name, this vehicle wouldn't be controversial...

It's selling well, and will continue to sell well. Remember... the success of vehicles like these allow for High performance vehicles in the SRT lineup as well as the king of offroaders... Wrangler to continue to be developed at Chrysler.

Why should you have to look past the sheetmetal? Why would you by a vehicle that you don't like to look at every time you goo get in it?
I've seen the new Cherokee up close and it looks like a Hyundai or Toyota or Kia or whatever. A shame, since I do like the new drivetrains...but for me, if I'm paying for it, I want the whole package: looks and powertrain. If, in the future, Jeep does something different with the front end (and nixes some of the chrome) I might consider one. But I prefer the boxy look myself.

Hey, there's this saying I've seen in memes and elsewhere, about how if you can't look back at your rig when you're done driving, and smile, and again see how cool it is, you've bought the wrong vehicle. That, my friend, is why the Cherokar is a disgrace.

Ahh yes that famous saying, I've seen it multiple times...

Some might call the newer Chargers a disgrace, because it's not a 2 door like the original, but those who own them love them, and you know what, spend a couple hundred dollars and these cars are neck breakers.

Much like how the patriot is a small/efficient cheap and roomy 4x4, the newer Chargers are full size REAR WHEEL DRIVE sedans which are affordable and you can have the functionality of four doors. Do I look back every time I park my Charger? You bet I do, and I'll tell you what it ain't no disgrace cuz we have charger enthusiasts too on forums where we all love our cars and talk about modding our cars, this is the NEW generation of the dodge charger, and the haters can hate but the owners will love it.

And in the coming months/ years the cherokee forums will also get going, talk about how they LOVE their cars and how they can mod them and you know what, they won't give 2 sh!ts about people who think it's a disgrace.

There will always be haters of a car (2015 Mustang is a great example) but those who buy a particular model, have reasons for it and everyone who buys that same car, they share their experiences and share ways to make the car better and mod it... Much like this forum does.

And I sure as heck walk backwards for a couple of steps looking at this beauty whenever I park... Good point ;)

The 3.0L diesel is one of the main reasons the RAM beat out the silverado for Motor Trends 2014 truck of the year :) they had many good things to say about the diesel, 420 lb-ft of torque.... Dear lord!

Ya know, I'm not sure what all this "deep bowing" to the 80's Cherokee is all about. I was a mechanic (both chassis and mechanical) then and also had buddies who owned them and I worked on and drove them all. The 4 cylinder was a dog and got 13 MPG, the V6 was that lousy GM unit that lasted about 50,000 miles before it ate itself from swapping coolant with oil. The 4.0 was a good motor but the cooling system sucked in the early years and the thing would toss side to side badly in any quick steering wheel motion. Any 4 year old with a spoon could steel the thing. The 4WD was one of the first ones without lockers so odds are, the tire that was in the air spun, it was a rattle trap and it ate bushings and grommets like McDonalds makes hamburgers. The suspension system made it virtually impossible to align properly. The ONLY thing you could get in spec was toe. It was NOTHING compared to my CJ5.....but it was sealed up, had more room and could haul a family. Are they cool? Sure!....but lets not put it up on a God-like pedistal, shall we?
The technology, drivability, suspension, power, MPG, handling, 4X4 system in this new Cherokee is lightyears ahead of that old dinosour. So...you don't like the looks? Some of the best dates I've had were not 10's!
