Hi

My ESP/BAS and TCS lights lit up on the dash and have stayed on since. The manual tells me to take my Pat to service. I did and they told me the error code is C123F and it is related to "steering angle sensor comparative performance". In other words, the computer doesn't receive a signal when the steering wheel is in the center position. This should correct itself by autocalibration, but hasn't done so. I have reservation for major service next week.

My worry is that I installed the cruise control myself. Is it possible that I goofed something? My Pat was prewired so all I did was disassemble the steering wheel and plug in the switch. There were wires only for the horn when I started, since the Sport doesn't come with the radio control buttons. The car did work for 100 km after the cruise install and has now 600 km on the meter. The cruise still works fine, as do the breaks.

Does anyone know where this sensor is located? Is it in in the steering wheel or somewhere along the steering column? The quick service guys couldn't find it on their computer.

Did you notice the floating ring with the sensor on it when you pulled off the steering wheel? Did you make sure you lined it back up with the sensor being at the top when you put it back together? Someone else posted on here about the same problem and had to have the sensor replaced and if iirc it wasn't cheap. I know when I did mine it naturally wanted to rotate downward where the sensor would be at the bottom but that is not where it goes. I had to manually put it back to where it needed to be and hold it there while I put the steering wheel back on.

No, I didn't notice any sensor ring... I don't remember anything in the Mopar cartoon either.

As far as I recall after I removed the 13mm bolt the steering wheel came off with some pulling (no hard force or jerking). Behind the wheel was the splined stub and the blank plastic face with the connector at 1 o'clock. I didn't have to disassemble any further since my Pat was prewired.

Could this ring have stuck on the back of the wheel so I wouldn't have noticed?

I didn't notice anything when I replaced the plastic back side cover. No extra pieces on the floor either. Maybe I have to take it apart once more and look if there is something floating belly up.

Da#n! Maybe I goofed up after all!

Took it apart again. I found the ring. My ring is kind of sluggish, so it doesn't spin freely. The connector is on the ring. I hadn't realized at all that the ring does turn. When I took the steering wheel off the connector must have been at the top, when I put it back it was slightly to the right - I remember like at 1 o'clock. Therefore the pin at the bottom (steering angle sensor?) must have been slightly to the left of the corresponding hole. The pin looks fine, but maybe it got hurt when I reinstalled the steering wheel?

A recap for those using the search function: Be careful with the ring behind the steering wheel when installing the cruise control.

When you reinstalled again and made sure it's centered it's still giving you the error? I'm guessing you don't have a scangauge to clear the code and see if it comes back do you? My guess is that if it is still throwing a code that it did somehow get damaged. I think that if you install it any way but how it goes it will be wedged behind the steering wheel which is probably bad. At any rate the dealership should be able to replace it for you.

Yeah I have the exact same problem as you. I just installed cruise control in my pat and i got the same error. I took it to jeep and they said i would probably have to replace the angle sensor. Probably a couple hundred bucks. I might take it apart and see if i can fix it myself. to reset the code you should be able to unplug your battery for a good 15 mins and maybe it will reset the codes.

Found out from the "stealer" that the steering wheel angle sensor is a different name for the clockspring. They told me for a new clockspring it would cost me $325CAN. I said forget that and i looked on Moparwholesale.com and its $165USD. anyways i didn't need to buy the clockspring because i pulled my steering wheel off and adjusted the clockspring to the correct angle (there is a pin that fits into a slot on the steering wheel), and took it for a test drive. The next time i started the vehicle the BAS/ESP light reset itself and fixed the problem.

These things are definitely sensitive.

I took off a bulb, for the ESP button, from the switch bank circuit board...
damn it I couldn't turn ESP OFF anymore and the "sliding Jeep" light took a long time to go out when I started the Jeep...
put the bulb back in and guess what... everything back to normal.

All I did was take out a light bulb!

I am now leary of changing anything that doesn't involve a simple circuit.
After researching a little, I found that the light was part of the CAN bus because that is the only thing to that switch bank. That one little interruption of the circuit messed the whole thing up. STUPID!

I found a 2011 jeep wrangler for an amazing price.
It needs a steering angle sensor. I was told that it only cost 250.00 but I need to know what an average cost of installation is for it. Help!
