Hey guys, new to the forum. I am thinking of buying a 2011 Patriot 4x4 70th Anniversary. I understand it has the CVT in it. I am a little concerned with the transmission but love the vehicle. I also have a Jeep Commander that my wife drives. I love that 4x4 system in the snow. I currently have a Ford Mustang that I will be trading in if I decide to get the Patriot. How have the CVT transmissions been working for you guys that have them in your Patriots. I understand some will not like them or have had problems with them. I understand anything mechanical can and WILL breakdown at some point. Any thoughts you al have to put my mind at ease is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

i think 98% of the people on here who have a cvt have had no issues with it, or maybe one that was resolved by changing the fluid. it takes a slight adjustment in driving style, as it is not an automatic, it functions differently. i dont even think about it anymore, which is exactly its purpose.

Thanks man, I went to the Dealer and am in the process of buying it. It is really nice, quite a change from the Mustang I am trading in but the CVG seemed fine to me. The Patriot drove outstanding.

Maybe MB, but I don't think it is terrible at all. It is perfect inside and out and I think it will get the job done.
congrats. Most love them, a few don't and they ALL seem to get on here and write long impassioned pieces about what crap they are.

I expect its expectations...its not a off-offroad vehicle, its a very competent CUV. Snow, sand, trails...all good.

excellent on the highway...I pound mine over 200 kms per day and the only things that have gone wrong are some plastic trim pieces have cracked or come adrift. mostly because I get in and out over 30 times a day for work so while my outboard seat trim has broken the starter still starts, the transmission still is unobtrusive (after you get used to its quirks), etc.

All the while getting 30+ mpg, our bigger gallons.

And the biggest plus?
If you squint while looking at it and imagine it shrunk down to Matchbox toy size it still looks like a classic vehicle, not some sex toy.

Thanks Metaxa, yeah it seems like a great vehicle. I'm not looking to take the Jeep down any legendary trails or anything, just something to take to work in bad weather and move the wife and kid around in.

I love the color of the 70th considering my 07 had a cvt and zero issues in over 208, 000 miles u will be fine. Enjoy

I finally purchased the Patriot. I love it so far. I will post pictures hopefully tomorrow or the next day. Thanks for everyone's opinions and thoughts. Now to just see about new tires. Any recommendations for size 215/60/17?

Congrats on the pat! I like 70 ann editions.

As for tires, I would avoid the 215/60s and got for a 215/65 or even a 225/65.

Yoko Geolanders seem to be a very popular choice among members here.

The Geolandars are awesome tires! I have them on my Patriot and my dad runs them on his work truck! I highly recommend them!

I see that there are different models of Geolanders, I assume you all are talking about the all-terrains correct? By the way, thanks for the input. I wa looking around and didn't really see to many all-terrains for the size that are on mine. 215/60/17
