Im replacing mine with a black mesh grill tonight (same as the Startech Patriot), I wasn't expecting it to be easy. Will let you all know how it goes and post up some pics.

WhatARiot: So its not screwed on, they are glued? I've noticed some parts are just clipped in which seem to pop out easy.

It will bother what I want to do though.

I want to put a piece of screen in front of my radiator for bug season. Obviously I will want to remove it to clean it every so often. So ease of removal and replacement on a fairly regular basis will be important.

Just finished. My hands and wrists hurt from working in the comfined space. Probably one of the more frustrating jobs I've done on a car, not one for the faint hearted. Yes its is true once the clips that come off to hold the "slits" on come off they are semi-useless, you could shape them up again to re-use but definately not a clip on clip off thing. Jeep really didn't want people messing with their signature grill.

Have the grill clamped on and trying to get some epoxy to hold the grill to the front bar, will see if it works in the morning.

Anyone have any other ideas on how to get the grill and front bar to stick together? Im not too optimistic about the epoxy holding. There is pretty much no where to use a clip or anything behind there either. I really want to know how Startech did it.

JP,

Got any pics to go with this mod?

Are those clips something that can be easily ordered from Jeep? Maybe in bulk if they are in essence "disposable"? Just a thought.

If these are what I think they are, you can get replacements of a similar fastener from most hardware stores. The ones I've seen aren't round. They are rectangular but should work as long as the hole is the right size.

Yeh you probably could buy some but they are an absolute PIA to get off as they have little teeth that bind into the plastic, working in such a confined space doesn't give you the best angles to get at them = cut up and bruised hands and wrists.

Ill put up some pics later tonight.

I believe someone removed the stock grill--the whole outer shell, not just the slits and replaced it with a chrome unit just recently. That might be the thread to pursue.

Was this what you were talking about Jack? (Found it in the gallery, don't remember what or where the thread was)

His description does make it sound like it is just stick on the existing plastic, WhatARiot
