I wasn't sure what to expect- had my first fill up yesterday (350 miles on the car) and got 25.6 mpg, so I was pleased. I have an '08 Patriot sport 2.4 liter 4x2 and love it. I figure on trips where it's all highway driving it'll really excel. This is city/highway combo driving.

I've been very consistently between 22 and 25 MPG on every tank for 18,000 miles now. Never more, but never less. My driving habits might be pushing the numbers down a bit (i cruise on the highway around 70mph most of my drive), but I'm pretty content with where I'm at.

Previous Patriot was a Limited with FD-II & CVT trans. Consistently pulled 19.5mpg regardless of weather, driving style, loaded, unloaded, etc. Current Patriot is a 4x2 w/5spd. Getting approx. 25mph and the motor is still green. Pretty happy with the increase.

I've been kind of in the dum zone lately and not paying attention to really trying the maximize my fuel economy, so this tank has been a good test of what average driving yields in MPG. 27. This is all around rural Wisconsin in the hilly portion near the Illinois border. I was surprised. I could never get that kind of mileage with my Chevy HHR 4 sp automatic. If mileage is what you are after, go with the 5 speed stick. You are going to pay big time in gas for every road mile you drive in an FD2 where you do not need the features of the FD2.

They really need to find a way to offer the low range FD2 gearing with a manual transmission.

Now that decent weather has arrived here (It was 20C today) My mileage has gone from 11.5 to 8.4 l/100kms. I was amazed when I checked scangauge today after a drive of about 120kms -40% city driving. At 8.4 l/100kms that is about 28 US mpg and 33 Imperial. Not bad at all for an automatic 4x4!! I averaged about 105 kph on highway with lots of hills.

That is some very impressive mileage for the automatic. Were you using the autostick feature at all?

No I did not use the autostick, but I was careful with the gas pedal and I tried to keep rpm's around 2000 to 2300. I surprised myself with the readings but my scangauge is accurate as I have had it over 6 months now. I do find that the gas pedal itself needs very little pressure to move the car along- very unlike any other car I have owned (and I have owned many). I wonder if it is a 'drive by wire' rather than mechanical system??

I have the same Pat you do and I was upset when after about a month I was only getting 21 mpg heavy highway driving. After listening in this forum and elsewhere I stopped speeding (75-80 avg, speed) and my mileage went up to 29 mpg! Wow! I am thrilled and I no longer speed.

I'm now on my 6 or so fill-up (about a month and a half). I'm only averaging only around 17-18mpg.

Improvement from 19 to 23 is very promising over such a short time.

I drive about 95% city. I like to drive with my window open and my tires are bigger/wider than stock.

When if ever can I expect to any kind of improvement.

City driving, bigger tires, I think about 23 to 25 is going to be the top end on that rig.

Been getting 28-30 so far with just over 1k miles. I do a lot of highway driving and keep the speed around 60, biggest thing here is the hills and the last 5 miles of my drive has a dense pack of stop lights, so 1st 5 are side roads, middle 20 are highway with one steep hill that requires a dowshift to up and the last 5 has more stoplights than needed.

I just passed 10,000 miles and have been using Mobil 1 since my first oil change at 1500, and again at 5000, and just now again at 10K. I drive a split 50/50 highway-city, at highway speeds I'm usually between 65 and 75mph. I'm averaging around 27 mpg according to the EVIC. I'm very happy with the mileagage, especially as we approach $4 a gallon.

I just filled it for the first time and with my first tank (from the dealer) I got 21.7mpg. Which is pretty good considering it only had 8 miles on it, and it was all city driving AND I've been horsing around with some full throttle launchs, etc to size up what it can do. I'm happy as can be at that since I traded my Dakota R/T for it which averaged 12/13 mpg city.
