Seems that our Patriot has filled up with water, but the bulb keeps on burning.

I checked with the manual to see how to replace or get at the housing, and guess what, it's not in the '07 manual.

SO do they pull straight out like the rear housings, clicked into rubber bushings?

I'm about to check it out......I'll report back.

Noticed water slopping around the other night when my wife pulled in. Our first real leak. ;-)

TJN, that appears to be the case. I can see that inner engine well sheet metal has it just below looking from the back. That is a poor design feature!
No wonder it isn't in the manual.

I tried to pull it out with some rubber-tipped "grabbers" I have, it is mounted to sheet metal in there some how.

I may try and approach it from the bottom of the bumper fascia on my next look. Might visit the dealer anyway and see about getting the CVT software update. Doing some mileage testing today to be sure.

If you see it sloshing around, that means you're running low! Make sure to top it off with name brand headlight fluid! :p

1.inner well plastic out of your way
2.led flashlight,8 point star screwdriver
3.new housing or transparent silicone to reseal it around the edges if it isn't cracked
4 loads of patience.
5 a 6 pack.

good luck

Stopping by dealer this morning, will report back. I bet this is a DIY job cause the dealer will want 1.6 hours labor or something very ignorant along those lines.

$65 for CVT software update, I'm fillin' her up on the way to be sure I really want this. MPG report as well.

Tx for the humor guys, it is always a pleasure.

OK, access is through the wheel wells, just detach the push-pins and thar she blows! Housing is $36 and labor for .5 hours. So tomorrow morning I'll let them do the dirty deed. I did the fogs on my Ford and the pins didn't hold well at all on my attempt to reuse them, so Jeep can have at it.

I think it is time for the CVT update, I got 21.6 MPGs on a 95-mile trip that never saw 65 mph and had lots of long, flat(FL), windless, non-stop stretches, but used the A/C the whole time.....should have done better.
I did do about 2-miles of easy hill climbs. Other than the short off-road climbs I drove it like a hypermiler trying to maintain 2k rpms. Crossrails, 235 HPs and a CVT programmed in Jan '07....I know I can get at least 2 more mpgs out of her and all for a nominal charge of $65.

Anybody not like the results of having their CVT reprogrammed please let me know.

UPDATE

Back from the dealer's shop, here is the bottom line.

First, Omar in parts quoted the wrong price, it is actually $58.25 for the housing, not $36. Dealer gave me the lesser of the two.

Secondly, the plug for the bulb isn't part of the housing, it costs $80 with the bulb. Dealer cut me a brake here too, $73.88. Labor was $65.00 for a total of $197.70.

Thirdly, I'm glad I let them do it as you have to pull the wheel off to get to the well liners, and they have all the know-how as I haven't been that deep into it before.

Plenty of folks here on JP.com posted better pics of the wells so I won't post my phone pic, though I put it on my FB page.

Easy job for just about anyone, but make sure you have all the parts you need or you will be running back and forth.

Cheap solution would be to drill a small hole in the bottom of the housing to create a drain, then just wait for the plug to fail. MEH!
