Back to the drawing...the only way I think Jeep can get away with doing a largely Fiat based compact-er Jeep is giving it some ground clearance. If it sits as low as the 500L sits then the world and Jeep community will hate it with a passion. It'll need at least the same amount of ground clearance as the current MKs for it to be slightly successful. And (imo) the rear spare is a must BUT with a hatch I doubt they'd do it unless they made the glass separate from the actual door itself. Make it a swing out stype tailgate with the glass seperate but can still open with the tailgate closed (meaning it'd probably be sorta small height wise). It is doable but I doubt Jeep would be able to design it this way after seeing the new Cherokee.

That drawing really is pretty interesting looking. Kind of a smaller Compass. They could even use the name.

As for ground clearance, there really is no reason why Jeep can't deliver that. Subaru manages 33/34 mpg out of the Crosstrek (a jacked up Impreza 4 door hatchback) and that has the 8.7" of clearance the Outback and Forester do. That also has AWD. On the other hand its got a 150hp engine and a CVT. Which might be necessary to achieve that kind of fuel economy.

All right, since you guys were interested in the sketch, I decided to flesh it out into a couple of quick 'shops.

I may do some alternates tomorrow. The first batch are what I'm (reluctantly, in a way) guessing the Compass might look like, based off the Car & Driver renderings of the upcoming 500x. I removed the spare tire because I figure a hatchback's rear hatch won't be able to accomodate it :(

So...

^ I pray to God they don't put the Cherokees stupid Asian lights on the front of it. That'd kill it for a lot of possible buyers. I say just square/edge the front up a bit, round headlights, fenders shaped like you did, and work on the rear to get a spare tire to work on a swinging tailgate (long shot but I can dream...)

I COMPLETELY AGREE! Right now, Jeep is trying to get into Subarus market that they primarily dominate. Low-ish cost, great performing off road vehicles. The Compass/Patriot started it and the Cherokee/new small Jeep is going to continue it. I think the Cherokee is going to pull some Forester, Outback, Legacy, Tiburon, etc owners away form Subaru but who knows. And the XV Crosstrek is the perfect example of how Jeep can achieve maximum ride height BUT, like you mentioned, for optimum fuel economy...a CVT will probably be used. Who knows though, this 8 speed auto trans they're using could fit and do wonders. We'll have to see.

Exactly! That's what it's supposed to do. I just wonder if it works. Driving the Patriot on wet roads really gums up the rear window.

Spoilers on cars do not affect anything in the aerodynamics until you go over about 130 or 150 MPH if I remember correctly.
if you recall lots of wagons from the 70's had built in spoilers, or tied into the luggage rack it does work

You know, I was just thinking about a few things.

1.) There is a chance we might get the wheel in the back. Here's why: Some people have argued that the new B Jeep is going to be a convertible, or have a convertible option (Think Fiat 500 Cabriolet, since this vehicle is based off the 500 platform.) Anyhow, if that's the case, it's unlikely that they would go with a lifting hatchback door, because there wouldn't be enough strength in the remaining roll cage to lift up. It would then swing out, and from there would make having a wheel in the rear quite plausible. Not only that, but they might do it in order to increase interior cargo room. (However it could also be possible that they might just do what the 500 does and add a trunk instead of a hatch. Not a pleasant thought, but also possible.)

2.) The other reason to add a wheel to the rear door is because it would strongly discourage owners to add bigger tires, thus decreasing liability. The size of the spare would be limited by the size given in the rear for the tire. So owners would have a reason not to switch up tire sizes.

3.) From there, the vehicle begins to look like a mini Wrangler. The rest writes itself.

I think I may do a photoshop redo when I come back from Chama. Till then...

^ All good points! If it becomes a "mini wrangler" type vehicle I'd hope it would be boxed a little more. It would be sweet to have a caged, patriot look alike with a hard or soft top option!

I can dig that dude. It's small like a MK but new aged which is what they're wanting anyway.

Given the market they are aiming it at, I'd rather see them go the Compass route in styling the front end and have it copy the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee. Leave the classic round headlights for the more capable and utilitarian Jeeps - the Patriot replacement (I hope) and the Wrangler.

At 6'2" I'm not liking anything small with a cab-forward windshield, it doesn't work on the Compass for me either with the ceiling right there. I drove both a new Compass and Patriot last Monday with my dealer, it was great as I hadn't done that in 6 and a half years. The Patriot has everything on the Compass. The Compass actually is louder in the rear, must be the hatch angle reflecting it forward. Sorry, not bashing the Comp, just pointing out my test drive results. ;-)

Small = LOUD

I agree that the MK could be slightly refined into a Compass/Patriot hybrid, melding if you will.

Sketches always look better than the final product. Nice!

IMO anything smaller than the MKs should be a 2-door, I don't get having a 4-door at this level. All you get is 4 small doors when you can have 2 large doors. Is it structural for rigidity to hang 4? (not a surf term)

Time to go look at the Cherokee FB page.

From what I've heard, the KL Cherokee is the Liberty and Patriot replacement.

I will say no more--but I don't expect any vehicle other than the Wrangler to have round headlights--my Photoshops are just dreaming. I wouldn't be surprised if every other vehicle in the lineup ends up looking just like the KL Cherokee. Especially since they're now saying the Fiat 500x has been redesigned to look more like the Nissan Juke--http://www.autonews.com/article/20130704/COPY01/307049997#axzz2aTLaq8lk.

On the other hand, considering some sources said the KL would end up looking like a mini Grand Cherokee, I first don't know what they're smoking, and second want to see what they mean when they say the upcoming B Jeep looks like a "mini Wrangler".

P.S. I don't think I'll have much time in the next couple days to do another Photoshop. I'll try to do a 500X-to-Patriot mockup in the next week while we're still in dreamland.

Edit: OK, made the last Photoshop. Added a hockey-stick type side light to try to replicate the amber headlamps of the XJ.

Lol "As Manley notes, the small SUV segment is explosive in world markets. Most of the examples sold are two-wheel drive car based vehicles with zero off-road capability, but Europeans couldn’t care less. That means the whole “Trail Rated” business won’t be an issue in Europe, but the Jeep faithful here may have something to say about that." If they dont make a Trail Rated model they might as well not make it in the US cause the hard core enthusiasts would flip their sh*t if they did this and didnt have a Trail Rated model (though they already hate on everything that is Trail Rated today...)

New b segment Jeep to be built in Italy, Folks get your Pats and Compasses soon. I know this was coming but what will be built in Belvidere?
Its been known for awhile that the b segment Jeep would be built in Italy, so that is not news. I don't see where this is the end of the larger Patriot/Compass class - there is no source in the article or in the one they source (Edmunds) that says that. I saw a recent interview with Manley where he said the replacement for the Patriot/Compass was still coming as a seperate vehicle from the b segment car.

I just found this French article today browsing photos of the B-Jeep--it contains a Photoshop based off the Jeep Renegade concept with some added cues from various other Jeep concepts. I've seen a lot of 'shops and watched this thread as much as possible but this one is brand new to me. I have a feeling this is probably close to what the final vehicle might look like.

Hmmm that grille/headlight/hood/etc looks like it'd fit that 500X base platform but I doubt they'd put a Wrangler-esc front bumper on it. It would be nice to have something with that much ground clearance from whats a baby cuv.
