Well I finally had some time to go have my exhaust done. I must tell you whomever designed the Patriots exhaust system was definately not thinking of the aftermarket or the mufflermen out there. I was orginally going to put on a Flowmaster Super 40 but it would have taken an act of Congress to get it to fit and look nicely. So we went with Plan 2 which was use a Flowmaster Hushpower muffler. They are a unique muffler in that they are shaped similar to a catalytic convertor so they are great if you have space issues. The insides of the muffler use laminar technology(like a jet engine) to pull the hot gasses out of the system. They mounted the muffler about a foot in front of the rear axle and had the tail pipe come out the back with a nice stainless tip. The benefit of the Hushpower is it did give a nice tone without being obnoxious and I could tell it gave the Pat a little more power. The Hushpower also doesn't hang low enough to catch on anything and it is made of T409stainless steel, unlike other Flowmasters which are aluminzed--so it should last longer. I'll try to get some pics up ASAP. For those of you who live in the Seattle area--Pro Exhaust in Auburn did the job-they are really great.

With the new location, is it now possible to put the spare where the muffler was? You would then have the interior cubby without losing the spare.

You might be able to do that--I'm just not sure how to attach it yet--I do like the fact I gained some clearance with that giant boat anchor muffler gone.

Hawg your system is very nice--I just won't buy Magnaflow products anymore--1. they do not hold up (big reason they HAVE to give a lifetime warranty--especially with mufflers that sit all the way to the back of a car--condensation collects in the packing and rots them from the inside out) and 2. they are a crappy company to deal with from a distributors point of view--I put up with their nonsense for 13 years. But if you like it thats the most important thing-if your muffler shop gave you the warranty slip you will be cool-just go back when it goes bad and get a new one.:smiley_thumbs_up:

I'm working on getting more pics---as for a sound clip I don't have any equipment that would do that other than my cell phone and I doubt it would give the best sound--it is a mellow smooth tone-louder than stock but not like one of the rice rockets-the wife loved it.

youtube has a boatload of video clips with different cars that have hushpowers on them-check it out--and you can go to hushpower.com to see what they look like.

This design is awesome. Aero Turbine Exhausts have been doing this design for a number of years. It actually really dioes suck exhaust away from teh engine. In cars with turbos, this kind of exhast can really do wonders. I saw a bone stock Eclipse GSX gain 21hp at the wheels off this exhaust design alone. We did 3 runs before and after on a Dynojet... so these are real numbers.

I love the sound of this design as well.

just like everyone else, i'd like to see more pics and an actual sound clip from a jeep patriot if possible. No rush but I'm sure i'm not the only one anxious.

I really like the idea of the muffler built into the straight section of exhaust, not creating 90* and 180* bends just for fun, or a longer exhaust path. Not a fan of Aero Turbine or Hushpower, but hope you like it. Exhaust sound clips would be great!

There are a couple of sound clips on youtube that are pretty close to what mine sounds like--look for a 96 GMC sonoma or the Jeep TJ--although they have 6 cylinders mine sounds pretty close--I will try to make a sound file with my cell phone-but I've never done it so bear with me.

i listened to both of those and they sound totally different. The TJ one sounds much louder and not really my taste. The Sonoma one sounds much better.

btw, which one did you install? The Standard 18" or the Shorty 12"?

I don't own a Patriot yet and the one thing I really don't like about the exterior is the look of the muffler from the rear, even painted black. I have a question about the exhaust system. Does it use a resonator? If not, adding a resonator to it would make it a bit quieter without hanging too low.

Jeelo I put on the 18" one and there is no resonator-just so you know the stock system does not have one either---my system was custom built-there is no kit available.

jp they would buy the muffler from me and sell it to you to be installed--I'm a wholesale only distributor of exhaust products-I don't sell to the public. I do not know if they will install other things you bought off the internet -lots of shops HATE that as they view it as like taking your own eggs to Dennys to be cooked----and they will generally charge you more on the labor to do it. They figure if you bought it somewhere else-go install it yourself. You would have ask them if they would install something you bought somewhere else. Just be aware that the Hushpowers are not cheap-because they are stainless you can expect to pay at least $120 for one--there is one on ebay at the moment going for about $80 + shipping but it is for the shorty one.
