So im sure many of you know the new GC is avalible with the new 3.0 V6 turbo diesel motor, that can do up to 730 miles per tank, tows 7,400LBs, and gets 30MPG. Who doesn't want that GC right? Well how many of you have looked on jeeps website and tried to configure one. Kinda bad news in my opinion.
The diesel option is only for the limited, Overland, and Summit.

The limited starts with 4X4 at $37,795, then you have to add the $4,500 option for the diesel and 8spd tranny, ok so we are at $42,295, but wait! Jeep won't let you add the diesel without the Luxury II group with is $4,000, so now it's $46,295, and you know if your gonna spend $46K you mine as well buy the off road adventure II group for $1,795 and the trailer tow for $750, now we are at $48,840, and whats a $49K car without navigation, so that's $795, now we are at $49,635. Almost $50K for a GC with a diesel, I don't think it's worth the fuel savings, lol.

And you know for about $4,500 more you can get the Overland with Advanced Brake Assist, Blind Spot and Rear Cross Path Detection, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning with Mitigation. and for $2,000 more you can get the Summit, top of the line! But if your gonna spend $57K why not go all out and buy the SRT for $62K.

But lets be honest, if you can afford to spend $62K, why not buy a lexus, infinti, acura, something nicer. And boy if you can afford one of those, then you got some money, and that would be torwards my house than a car, lol

Guys this was for ****s and giggles, but at the same time the truth. Why couldn't they offer the diesel at the base model, and call it a day for $35K with diesel? More people could afford one then, cause heck, id love to have one, but not for almost $50K. I also know there will be rebates that will lower the price, but lets say $5K, it's still $40-45K!

Yeah, I am not sure the reasoning on the diesel only being offered as a luxury. Generally power train is available across all models, and the interior is where it gets nitty gritty. Oh well... guess I won't be looking at a GC any more

if you think a lexus, infiniti or acura are something nicer, then you are definitely NOT the jeep type.
if i had the opportunity i'd go for the diesel GC straight away.
we have the diesel GC in europe and i've seen what it can do.
it's not a head turner, but i wouldn't turn my head towards any of the three above anyway.

Gotcha. Well I was just saying for $60K, that door opens up alot more then just a jeep, and your right about not being a jeep guy. Im a japan guy, ive owned 3 japan cars, and I will one day return to a japan car. For right now I love my jeep, and honestly the jeep was bought because of price and what I got for it, and I did not expect to FALL IN LOVE with my Patriot, and have decided to keep it even with all of it's problems. But I did trade my japan car for a Jeep. But this was for ****s and giggles, just saying how it can add up when buying a GC diesel here in the states. If you can afford $45-50K for a GC like that, hey props to ya, im jealous. :)

Concur. For a minimum MSRP of $46K, a GCD will not grace my garage.

Sadly this is common now with diesels in North America, want a diesel Jetta? Pony up for the top trim want the upcoming Ram 1500 diesel better be ready to buy a Laramie. It sucks because those of us who most want a diesel can't buy one.

I'm not sure about a diesel here. I'd have to figure costs, not just MPG, as diesel fuel is more expensive, and not available everywhere gas is.

You'd have to do the math, divide 1000 miles by the MPG, to figure the gallons used and then multiply by the cost per gallon, and see how much real difference there is.

The GC Trailhawk is one I really like, but when you can have two Patriots for the price, it's hard for a regular working guy to make that choice. Now if I hit the lottery, maybe.

That's actually pretty sad that the "workhorse" diesel engine option should cost so much. There would be a ton of recreational boaters/campers buying a base GC diesel for the better towing at a cheaper price then a suburban/tahoe/crew cab pickup. Had Chrysler thought that through better, they would have sold tons.

As my own comparison, I priced out a base Ford F250 and Chevy HD2500, both crew cab, short bed 4x4's with diesel engines. $44k for the Ford and $45k for the Chevy (rounded up). All Chrysler would have to do is offer a GC w/diesel @39k and they would probably have a hard time keeping up with demand. Same goes for that Ram 1500 w/diesel. I know a lot of guys that buy the 250/2500's for the diesels towing mpg, but never carry the weight those heavy/super duty vehicles are capable of. Landscapers, recreational boaters/campers, racers towing their cars, etc. Jeep/Dodge would have cleaned house in that market with an affordable diesel tow machine.
