agree...i ordered my patriot (3/5/07) with heated mirrors...if the window sticker says heated mirrors, it better have heated mirrors or i will NOT take delivery without somekind of agreed upon substitution. my dealer is with me on this.

Yes, we've heard you each time. However, if enough of us bring it to their attention and it becomes a large customer dissatisfaction issue, some sort of "adjustment" just might occur. If I can't have the heated mirrors that I PAID for, then they need to give me something to make up for it.
I totally agree inferno, that's why I brought it to the attention of everyone in the first place. DCX really P***ed me off when they told me that they didn't plan on doing anything about it because window stickers/brochures are subject to change at anytime, which didn't make sense to begin with since the car isn't built around the window sticker, but the window sticker around the car. It's been 3 weeks and DCX has yet to get back to my dealer and let them know what they plan on doing. Anyone that has bought one so far needs to call them and complain. The thing that really gets me is that they knew about the website over 3 weeks ago and have yet to do anything about it, them being the website admin or whoever. I just don't want people still thinking that their patriot has heatetd mirrors just cause a website says so. If they know it's not supposed to have them but it's marked it does, maybe more people will call DCX and complain that way.

For the third time now in this post, DCX contends that they don't do the upkeep on their website and the company that does has misspoken. The patriot for a fact does not come with heated mirrors, limited or sport edition.
yes, but clearly thats a LIE. Because its on the WINDOW STICKERS which is beyond the control of the web people. Even it was true, they are responsible for the content of THIER webpage. The point being they have some responsibility for the mistake of people thinking they were getting something they werent. When you go to a dealership and look at the window sticker of a car that is right in front of you, I dont see how they could make the argument that the sticker on the car is negotiable or subject to change when it comes to the equipment. I dont think anyone is arguing that the heated mirrors ARE on the Patriot. I think the point is that DCX should do something about it other than blame web designers.

i understand that they say they dont do their own website
however the window stickers are saying they have them and the books in the cars are saying they have them too. that makes a problem bigger then the website to me at least

Another thought, just because DCX says they aren't installed doesn't mean they really aren't installed, its a new car, the people working for DCX may not know the car as well as they should. Is it possible that they all really do have heated mirrors and the people at DCX are mis-informed? Has anyone checked the wiring in their car, or checked to see if there is a heated mirror fuse? From what I have heard about other cars, they are very inactive, they turn on when you turn your defroster, you should notice the ice slowly melt away or water evaporate as you are driving but other than that you shouldn't really notice them at all.

I've left my defroster on for like 15 minutes and the back window got warm but the mirrors did not. There is no other button that would activate the mirrors. The manual has a slot for a fuse but there is no fuse in that slot. There is no little defroster symbol on the mirror like there is on several other DaimlerChrysler models. The new avenger has the symbol on it's mirrors, but the patriot lacks such symbol. After talking with several people and having my dealership check into it, all 4 have told me that the Patriot doesn't come with heated mirrors nor have the option to add the mirrors.

At this point, it seems clear that the Patriot doesnt have heated mirrors, but at one time was intended to but DCX nixed them and overlooked the change in certain areas and is now trying to blame it on the web designers. If the Patriot had heated mirrors Im sure it would be mentioned in the manual and they wouldnt be removing it from the window stickers.

If the window sticker is subject to change, how is a car buyer supposed to know what features come on his or her car?
Sounds like what they are claiming is that you are buying some sort of motor vehicle with a "Patriot" logo on it. Everything else is subject to change without notice. Clearly that is not the case.

I guess the next time I purchase a vehicle I must write on the Purchase and Sale agreement each option package and what that option package includes and every feature that is standard. In that way any variance from the agreement forces a failure to perform situation. THAT IS WHAT THE STICKER WAS MEANT TO PREVENT. Car manufacturers were required to add a list of the vehicle features to tell people what they were getting...because mfg were changing the components. THE CAR MUST MATCH THE STICKER.

Now I am not sure of what the remedy is. Do we have "no deal" where the dealer must refund a deposit and both sides walk away? Do we have a failure to perform where the manufacturer must fix the defect or offer some form of compensation based upon the value? Do we have a fraud situation where the manufacturer intentionally tried to mislead? Are there specific statutes covering this situation?

I had deferred my purchase of a Patriot until it was out for six months, the defects were known, and the supply issues resolved. Now I must add UNTIL A SATISFACTORY RESOLUTION TO THIS ISSUE IS MADE. Not because I particularly care about the feature that is being discussed but I want to make sure what I pay for is what I ordered.

Maybe as leverage you can add at least one sale is pending based on this issue.

Gotta love DCX, just claim it isnt their fault and tell you to take it up with your dealership. Well, it is their screw up, and now they want you to take it out on someone who had nothing to do with their screw up. They did something similar with the Wrangler, they decided to drop the underhood lamp, but left it on the window sticker. Luckily it was an option on the Wrangler and they were just dropping it as a standard item. The fix was easy, they had to issue a service action to add it to the ones that had it on the window sticker. The Patriot wont be so easy since the option doesnt exist at all, but they will just let the dealers catch all the flack for them while also keeping us in the dark about how or when they plan to fix this. We just had a customer order rear video on a Nitro, when it arrived I go to install it and find out it wont fit with the sunroof. We double checked the catalog and it did not show a listing for with or without sunroof, just the one part # showing it fitting all Nitro's and the picture in the catalog even showed it installed in a Nitro with a sunroof. We checked several different brochures and catalogs sent to us by DCX and their online parts ordering system for dealers all showed the same thing. Checking the Mopar consumer site it said, "Will not fit vehicles with sunroofs". A call to Mopar confirmed that was correct and when asked about the listings they sent us we were told, "Thats your problem" So now we look like idiots, we have a pissed off customer, we are stuck with a $1,000 part we cant use all because they screwed up the catalog and now its our problem. Yup, gotta love em.

i just ordered my limited today
and the broucher that i got and the computer print out for the order didnt say anything about heated mirrors... maybe they finally fixed it for new orders??? we shall see when it comes in

I also posted this in the DRL thread:

I just got back from the dealer's service department to figure out why my DRLs and heated mirrors don't work. They figured that they factory had just forgotton to activate the DRLs in the programming of the vehicle so they hooked it up and could not find the feature in any of the vehicle modules.

Of course, they also came to the conclusion that Patriots do not have heated mirrors just as we all have.

Service pretty much just left it as "Oh well, the documentaion is wrong so you will have to live with it." I argued that that wasn't good enough, that I had paid for represented features, so I took the issue to the general manager. He couldn't understand how so many feature errors could have been made and asked what I expected from DC. I told him that I expected them to deliver the features and outside of that we'd have to come to some agreement. He stated he would check with the regional DC rep and get back with me on Monday.

infernopatriot,

please keep us posted on your situation. i will probably be in your shoes when my ordered patriot comes in.

-thanks

But remember the "official Jeep website" does not represent Daimler Chrysler.

From the website:
"...DaimlerChrysler reserves the right to make changes at any time, without notice or obligation, to the information contained on this Internet site, prices, incentive programs, specifications, equipment, colors, materials, and to change or discontinue models. ..."

So what they are saying is that DaimlerChrysler can change the content of the website at any time. Sounds to me that they are still responsible for the facts published.

Doesnt matter what the website says, but when they screw up and leave it on the window sticker then they have a serious problem. I dont know how they plan on fixing it, since they arent talking to the dealers about it either but that doesnt stop customer service from telling you to call your dealer. DCX Customer service isnt part of DCX either, its an outside contractor answering the phones and they only tell you to call the dealer because DCX doesnt give them an answer either.

This is more than a simple mistake.

The error is a misrepresentation of the content of the product. D-C is and has been aware of the mistake. D-C has failed to correct the mistake in a timely manner nor have they made an effort to notify those who may be harmed of the mistake. They have also continued to misrepresent the product to new and prospective customers.

What is a timely manner? I would argue immediately for the sticker. As soon as content changes the window sticker must present that change. For the website they need to show that the error was corrected within their normal development cycle. A lower effort of proof but it does matter.

Of course the only damages for an incorrect website is to the reputation of the seller. It would, however, show a pattern. Alone it is an error as a pattern it may fall under internet fraud statutes. Is D-C knowingly trying to deceive people on the content and features of their vehicles?

The window sticker, however, is a description of the features and content of the car. The vehicle must match the the sticker. Any failure to match is considered a defect. Under the consumer protection laws in most states if you take the car back to the dealer and they fail to fix it the car must be bought back. That is the law in the two states I am familiar with.

The question is when does a mistake become a deception?

I would take it in for service to "fix" the non functional mirrors and keep going until I meet the legal requirements. I would then present the dealer with the option of resolving the problem of resolving under the consumer protection laws in your state

:smiley_thumbs_up: SilverMike - I completely agree. D-C is aware of the situation and they need to fix it. I don't think it's fair for the dealer to lose out on the money, it should come from D-C since it was their mistake.

Anyone have any success in getting any sort of compensation for this?
