the boxy shape of it. and are carmakers even making the boxy shape anymore?

With all the new "euro" type shapes, I dont see boxy shapes anymore, and the patriot seems to be one of the last newer model boxy shapes still being produced.

my thoughts are it doesnt matter what everyone else is doing, all that matters is what I prefer. On the other side on the coin, I think it is somewhat important to look updated and not too out of date, if you are willing to spend the money on a newer model vehicle.

I would love to hear everyones feelings on this

difference between old school and functional
aerodynamics is functional if your concerned with MPG's
boxy shape is functional if your concerned with loading cargo capacity.
i consider patriot design functional not old school.

OP,

You first say that you can think for yourself, but turn 180 degrees and say that it matters that you stay current with the sheeple trends. Which is it??

One factor that swayed me towards our new 2014 Riot is the looks. I also considered the Forester and could have lived with the CRV. The new Escape looks hideous to me.

I consider the Patriot to have character. The new SUV's look like cock roaches with fish-like gaping front ends. And, I have seldom been a fashion show follower.

Ford Escape Interior.....people like this mess ??????

You are spot on!
When we purchased our '13 Patriot, I was pleasantly surprised when my wife, who does follow fashion and trends, had the same opinion about all the other look alike SUV's.
I think she loves our Patriot more than I do.:smiley_thumbs_up:

I think you'll find that many of us bought the Patriot for its classic Cherokee styling.

I'm with the old Volvo commercials from the 70's and 80's--I don't like those "swoopy-doopy lines" in my vehicles!

Or, we could consider ourselves in the clique with the new Range Rover crowd, which is STILL somewhat boxy looking.

It retails near $80,000 +/- some pocket change.

They kind of mucked up the front end of the Forester in 2014 also. And those lights that wrap half way up the quarter panel??? Another fashion trend.

PS- Hope I'm not bothering everyone with all these pictures. And, really, looks is very subjective and everyone has different tastes. To each their own.

Treegrower- Exactly right about the Escape interior. I was trying different cars nd rented a Focus. When I returned it to the dealer I told him the interior looked like their designer was on crack- told him I would never buy a car that I had to read the owner's manual to tune the radio. And the instrument lights on the little info screens ruined my night vision and couldn't be trurned down or off. The Jeep Patriot/Compass has user-friendly instrumets and controls- one reason I bought the Compass.

The classic Jeep look is what lured me to the Pat. I'm happy it doesn't look like any of those "euro" type shapes. It stands out from the crowd and is recognizable as a Jeep, unlike other cars where you have to look at the badge to figure out what it is because they all look alike.

otther boxy contemporary vehices:
mercedes g
mercedes glk
range rover vogue
land rover discovery
toyota land cruiser

The classic looks of the Patriot is what finally pushed me to bring it home. I was in tears at the thought of driving around in something that resembled a running shoe. Thankfully Jeep has saved me from looking like everyone else.

Yeah the Pat has classic rugged good looks which is part of the reason I'm on my second one

Love the boxy look of my Patriot. That's why it sits next to my 2000 XJ Cherokee. The new transmission is what I have been waiting for and they did it finally for the 2014 model year. Thanks Chrysler. I knew I would not like the new 2014 Cherokee when it came out. Figured I better get a Patriot while I still could.
