I'm sure this will come as a surprise to most of my jp.com homies (as it's a surprise to me as well) but last night I said goodbye to my beloved Patriot. :wow:
It's not something that I've posted about, but I've been in the process of purchasing a house. My girlfriend and I were out in my Patriot scoping out the new neighborhood around 8:00pm to make sure it was the kind of place we want to live & raise a family. (It is, score!)
Earlier in the day while I was waiting for my girl to get home from work so we could go check out the house I took a few minutes to browse Craigslist to look at Jeeps. It's no secret that I've had the itch to add a more serious off-road vehicle to my stable for a while. I was really looking for an XJ/ZJ in good shape for cheap.
Whilst browsing I came across a decked out 2001 WJ Grand Cherokee Limited, all the options, Quadra Drive, 4.7 V8, tow package, premium alloys, moon roof, that nice brown color, with 78k miles, and it looked extremely clean.
They were asking a lot for it, more than what I wanted to pay for a 4th vehicle (already have my GTO/Buell/Patriot) but I called just to see if they still had it. The sales guy said yeah he just drove it up the road and it's a real cream puff. I was like well maybe I'll stop by sometime and check it out.
So as I'm pulling out of the neighborhood thinking I want this house at 8:00pm I get a call from the car salesman asking if I was going to stop by and check it out. It was on the way home and I appreciated his follow up so I was like why not. My girl rolled her eyes.
The second I saw it I was sold, every option I wanted and extremely clean... but I told the salesman that it was too clean to buy just as an off roader and more than I wanted to spend. He was like "why not just trade trade the Patriot and use it as a daily driver?" and I was like "make me an offer I can't refuse".
They ended up offering to pay the buy out on my Patriot even, with me keeping the factory wheels/tires/light bar/bumper, and me paying under KBB for the Grand Cherokee.
I wanted the Cherokee really bad and just couldn't say no. It was totally spur of the moment but I'm glad I did it. My girlfriend was pissed.
So, all that being said:
I love jp.com and still plan on hanging around, but am going to step down as a moderator.
I'm going to post any spare parts I have for the Patriot up on here at extremely low prices.
Pics of my WJ to follow.
