Would it be possible to get a poll of when folks Patriots were manufactured? By month an year is as best as can be had I think. I am just wondering if there are specific run dates where these leaks are showing up. Example, Patriots built in April 2007 exhibit leaks while those built in May 2007 do not. That sort of thing.

Armed with that information, the rest of us can be appropriately vigilant when, per the example above, our Patriot is built in April, that we should look at firewall seams and/or door seals and/or satellite pod seals and so on.

Mine was built in Sep, and I've got the leaking cargo dome light.

*sigh* Gotta go empty my tupperware bowl that I put back there....

Water Leak

Hey there Dave!

I too had a water leak the other day....it's getting looked at as well. The snow was melting on my car and all of the sudden, I had water dripping onto my dash through the map dome light in the front. A very weird place for water to leak i thought. My guess is that the water is coming in around the windshield somewhere. Dealer's looking at it now, I'll keep you all posted!

Love the car though....

I'm sorry to hear that, DeMolaysGirl! What the hell is going on here? So far my car has been dry, but I am getting worried, and my heart goes out to all of you with leak problems. CHRYSLER!!! Fix these problems. You have a great Jeep there, don't blow your chance for a real winner!

Has anybody had a leak from the rear dome light that has been successfully repaired? If so, what was the source of the leak. I'm having that problem and any information I can pass on to the dealer might help resolve the problem quicker. I'm going back for the second time and I don't have much confidence they're going to have much luck this time around.

FYI my parts are in to fix my driver's side rear door leak, so I'm dropping it off tomorrow to be fixed. We're due storms here on Saturday, so it should get a good test then.

I tried to find the leak by pouring water around the door, but didn't have any luck. All the car washes here were closed because of cold weather when I had the problem originally, so I couldn't do a car wash test...almost afraid to now though, since it sounds like there may be more than one source of the problem.

Mine was built in July 2007.

FWIW back when I ordered my 2000 Impala there was a pretty active group at Edmunds, and we had a list going that included the last 6 digits of everyone's VIN, in addition to the build date...that way if a certain person had a problem, people in that same approximate range knew to be on the lookout for the same problem. At the time there were also TSBs coming out that referenced ranges of VINs, so it made it easy to know who was involved and who wasn't. Just a thought; I know we learned from that experience that there was a pretty clear line between the very early cars that had problems, and those built later that first year.

Hopefully got my leak fixed today; they replaced all the rubber around the driver's side rear door. The only observation I can make at this point is I noticed on the old weather strip, when you had the door open and were looking inside the vehicle, the split in the molding where the two ends came together was located at about the 8-o'clock position (basically about 1/3 of the way up the "B" pillar, where the door hinges are). When they replaced the weather strip, they put the split at the very bottom, at the 6-o'clock position (which in my mind is where it should have been to start with, since it would drain out that way, versus collecting water from the side position).

I hope it wasn't just a matter of this split being in the wrong place (improper install), but it would be interesting if others here could take a look at their rear doors and see where this split occurs. Mine are consistent on each side of the vehicle, so I suspect that's the way they're typically installed. Anyway, we're due another big rain this weekend, and they dried the carpet out today before returning the vehicle, so we'll see if this cured the problem or not.

Good luck with your solution, nosirrahg.

My dealer is keeping my Pat overnight to try to find the leak. I knew they wouldn't be able to...so I pointed out that I had printed out this thread to see if that helps guide them...

We're finally getting into our rainy season here...and Hubby and I are flying out of town for 11 days on Saturday. So the Pat will be sitting at the airport...getting rained on the entire time. I plan to leave a small bucket in the back to catch water. :/ Hopefully they get it figured out tomorrow...

Well I just got back from the dealer after taking it in to fix a leak that was appearing near the rear dome light. It was the second time I had it in for this problem. The first time, they said the leak was from the windshield washer line. I had told them I didn't believe that was the source of the leak as the liquid was water, not windshield washer fluid and the volume that had leaked into the area around the spare tire was more than the amount of washer I had used since I bought it. I told them if the windshield washer line was damaged, it must have been damaged by the mechanic when he was working on it.

This time around, the manager was there to meet me and I could tell they were taking it much more seriously. When I came to pick it up, the manager told me the leak was from the grommet that seals around the the windshield washer line where it enters the car (just above the dome light). He told me there was a pinhole in it. He also told me they replaced the dome light, even though he said there wasn't any sign of damage to it. They took the light off a vehicle on the lot. They've ordered a new mat thing that goes under the spare tire as it got soaked. They cleaned the headliner as it was stained. It doesn't look too bad, although there's a couple spots I'm going to get them try a bit harder on next time I'm in. The manager said they were unable to clean a greasy finger print from the rear pillar cover so they've ordered a new one.

I'll have to wait until we get some rain or slushy snow, to see if they've stopped the leak. Although I'm not 100% confident they found the source of the leak, this time around I am pleased they're taking this seriously and are trying to give good customer service.

I'll let everybody know if the repairs were successful or not as soon as we get some rain, which is predicted for the weekend.

We got a lot of wind and rain today and wouldn't you know it, I still have a leak in my rear cargo area. I'll be calling the service manager tomorrow morning- hopefully he'll be in. I'm going to press them to give me a loaner car so they can work on it for a couple days to make sure they've got the problem fixed. I'll also ask them to call Chrysler as they must have some information on this problem by now.

This is getting annoying.

This is a REAL bummer! So far my Pat has had no problems, but hearing these complaints about the leaks sure has the hairs on the back of my neck rising up! I hope they can clear this problem up for everybody!

Yeah,I hope they fix the problem. My wife is picking ours up at the dealership Thursday. She is taking her nephew with her to check the vehicle over and I told her exactly where to check. It has been sitting in their lot since the beginning of the month so I would assume if it was going to leak it would show.

Good luck Charlie, in the meantime have a great Christmas! I wish you all the best.
