Hi all, I have been reading posts for past 3 weeks, found this a great site to hang out for Patriot lovers.

I am shoppoing for a car and came across Patriot in dealership (never paid attention to this car before), love the look, the utilities, features, and particularly 5 speed manual, which is hard to come by for a car with reasonable space and power. I have decided on North all season 4X4, 5 speed of course.

Two questions:

Wife said being a 46 young big boy, this would be too big a toy, should settle down on something like a camry, wondering what age group we are talking here driving 5 speeder.

Second question, I started off driving manual with no syncronizer years ago, so my stick skill (pardon the pun)is not a issue, but it has been 12 years since last time. I am now commuting to work on the infamous highway 401 about 40 minutes one way, any comment or similar experience?

Welcome!

Patriot is one of the very few vehicles that meets my needs, for cargo space, room for me, great 4x4 and clearance to make my driveway, and decent MPGs for my 100 mile a day commute.

Camry would only meet the MPG part.

And your more than a decade younger than me.

I'm 29, My wife understands that I have to have a "fun" vehicle. Rode motorcycles up till our 2nd baby was born. I "settled down" and got the jeep. We go out once a month exploring, and she's come to enjoy it quite a bit.

Its not like you're going out and getting a sports car, or even a wrangler, Patriot is a very practical car vehicle.

Camrys are horrid hateful cars, my wife's family has two of them, and they have endless issues with both.

Is the stick the issue? Is she worried she can't drive YOUR car if she needs to? That's a deal breaker usually. If the stick is a non-issue, explain that the Pat will get her where she needs to go in weather the Camry can't handle. Even being plowed into a parking spot is a non-issue in a Patriot.

I'm 57. Tell her you're having your mid-life crisis. I had mine with a Pontiac Grand Prix. Then I settled down and got my Patriot because it was more sensible

First, age has no bearing on toys so long as they are your to your personal liking. Nobody else can judge that. Personally, owning a Camry would make me want to bash my head into the wall every time I opened my garage.

Second, with synchro no need to double clutch so all is good. ;) I haven't driven a Pat manual, but every modern 5/6spd I've driven is easy as pie. I would imagine the Pat to have longer throws and an easy clutch uptake.

Welcome to the forum. :D

Welcome!
Thornhill eh, I just picked up my 2010 North ed 5spd from your neighborhood. In the past 3 weeks I've put 2000kms on it and have been happy so far. I settled on one because I liked the 4x4, fuel economy and 5spd combo.

Thanks all ! I think I will go with the 4X4 5 sp combo. I always want that combo but needed some inspiration from your guys to make up my mind :)

I will take wife to dealership this weekend, will let you know when I cut a deal.

P.S. not sure how I did it, but somehow I put a thumb down icon on my first debut post...lol

Yeah, I wondered about that. Why would someone join a forum and express interest in joining a forum if they didn't like the vehicle? We have an edit function -- maybe you can go back and edit your original post.
