please respect mother nature during the upcoming blizzard that is going to hit the midwest and eastern part of the country. Remember, if you get in a situation that goes sour, you are putting yourself, first responders, police, and rescue personnel in harm's way. Be "Jeep Responsible" during this upcoming storm.

Which should also include cleaning off the top of your Jeep. Nothing worse than being behind someone that doesn't clean off the snow and ice and then sheets of it fly off the roof causing accidents.

Rich
Saw some idiot this morning who cleared off only the windshield and didn't have his lights on. He had about 2" of snow on his Accord, with the rear window completely covered. I saw another mental midget driving his Yukon Denali like he was on a racetrack.

The Patriot, however, laughed everything off.

Whatthe hell is a blizzard :)

Actually that is a heavy snowfall. For blizzard, imagine the show blowiing around so much that you cannot see the car or anything else. You think heavy rain reduces visibility then you have to experience a white out. Like thick fog is some ways but add slippery driving conditions.

Right on, Akula!

When the Denali finds ice, he will be in for a swell ride. Let's just hope no one is the recipient of all the sliding metal.

Friends have asked, how my Patriot behaves on ice. I tell them just like your Accord, Mustang, Range Rover, Altima, Sierra or Montana. :)

I mentioned Range Rover because a woman at work did some serious damage to her RR and another vehicle last winter. It was snow on ice. She was dismayed the RR would lose control since it was made by Land Rover. We had to console her that the overconfidence is what lulled her into a false sense of security.

Be very aware of the road conditions. They change real fast. Black ice looks just like no ice. Ice is NO vehicle's friend. What are the words to that Paul Simon tune again?

Akula, I was driving in the Saturday storm here carrying 4 passengers. I said it must be windy because I could feel the Patriot move laterally just a hair or two. When I mentioned this to a Volvo serviceman at the function we were attending he said it probably wasn't windy. It was probably icy or slippery and it was the traction control hard at work. Hmmm, cool!

Note to self: Don't get cocky in your Patriot - remember the Range Rover.

Just wanted to share.

Yeah, that's the thing. While AWD can get you going, you're still limited to the 4 contact points of the tires. If the tires lose traction, it doesn't matter if you're in a Wrangler or a Ferrari; you're just along for the ride (until traction is regained). The Patriot has a very large margin of error, but you do have to fight the temptation to use every bit of it screwing around.

I found that I could slip the thing into a nice (but very brief) slide here and there, but being a little conservative behind the wheel is what separates the guy who makes it to his destination (albeit 5-10 minutes behind schedule) and the guy waiting on the tow truck to pull his cocky hide out of the ditch. Any vehicle can lose control.
