I recently noticed when the pat is fully warm at a red light in park you can hear noticible ticking.

It has a rhythm to it (tick tick tick......tick tick tick....) almost like plastic cards being shuffled

When the cars in park its not as loud, definately more noticible in
Drive.

It is coming from the left side of the engine, possibly the serpentine belt?

When reving the engine or driving there is no noise, only at a complete stop.

Anyone else with the same issue?

hoping its just the belt!

Doubt it would be a timing chain. Valve tapping maybe? You could have someone else in the car, have it in D with foot on brake, and you stand BESIDE it and listen with the hood open.

You can use a long screw driver like a stethoscope. Carefully place the screw driver end on an engine component (say the valve cover) then put your ear on the end of the handle. It will isolate noises to just the immediate area around the tip. You can then start moving the tip around to listen to different ares. Just be real careful of anything spinning and moving and make sure no loose clothing (such as hoodie drawstrings) can fall down into anything moving or spinning.

Thanks for the feedback. I will probably have this looked at in the New Year, too busy with Christmas.

I will keep everyone posted on this forum when I take it to a mechanic/dealer

If it were Valve tapping, would it be safe to still drive the vehicle? I don't want to cause more damage.

No Loss of power, so I guess that's a good thing!!! And Oil changed every 5000km Synthetic 5w20 with Napa Gold filter. I treat this car like a king. He gets all the good stuff before I do. :(

So here is the update.

Because of the sound coming from the side of the Engine where the accessory belt is, not directly from the Engine, and no feeling of the click when he placed his hand on the Engine, The mechanic advised to not worry about it and drive it until it gets worse before determining what is wrong. No worries because no loss of power either.

His main point was that it had a rhythm to the click so it wasn't value or piston. and is probably something small that is hard to diagnose, better to leave it for a bit until it gets louder so easier to diagnose.

Oil level is within the SAFE mark, closer to the MAX line so that is fine.

Ill update this post if I find anything else.

If it's connected to the belt drive it may be the tensioner for the serpentine belt. They have a bearing in them that can go bad (this is on any car with a serp belt). The second likely candidate would be a noisy alternator bearing, but that is usually a grinding sound.

The other thing you can do is take the serp. belt off then fire up the engine. If the noise went away, then you know it's a belt/pulley issue. If the noise stays, then it's in the engine itself. And yes, it is perfectly safe to run the engine for a few minutes without the belt on.

FDI is 120amp I believe and you can replace it with the FDII 140 amp. Direct fit.

I figured Id Update this post.

Purchase a Reman Alternator 115AMP has a decoupler pulley by a company named "ZEN".
Replaced both Upper/Lower Idler Pully (Dayco)
Replaced Accesorry Belt (Dayco)
Auto Tensioner (Dayco)

Is it as quiet as it was when I first owned it, no longer sounding like a diesel. I now keep forgetting that the car is ON.

:)
