Adding a Convex / Concave Mirror?

I’m going to add one of those circular concave / convex (sorry I can never remember which it is) mirrors to the drivers side mirror to help improve the blind spot on the drivers side.

My question is do I mount it closer to the vehicle (right side of drivers side mirror) or further away from the vehicle (left side of drivers side mirror)

It should be convex (curves out) which increases angle of view.
If it were concave (curves in, like a cave {the way to remember}), you would be focusing in on smaller area.

If you put it close to the inward side you will end up with mostly side of your Compass.
If you put it close to the outward side you will get more of your surroundings (but don't put it too close to the edge of the factory mirror because you will end up with the edge blocking the view of the outward edges of the little mirror)

I put one on my driver's side mirror, and I located it on the edge nearest the door. I should say that it isn't a round shaped one, but a rectangular one that is angled so most of it isn't the vehicle itself, but of the blind spot next to it. You can find them at any auto parts store.

My convex mirrors came with instructions that indicated mounting on the outside bottom corner of the mirror.

Thanks guys! Sounds like the Outside Edge (farthest away from the door) is the proper way.

I placed both of mine (one on each side of the Patriot) on the outside top of each mirror. Mine are also adjustable so I can see almost 90 degrees from the side.

You will have to find the spot that works best for you, not based on others eyesight. I put mine upper/inside edge, works for me. I also find that if I leave the rear seats folded down that the rear visibility is increased. The rear headrest block a big chunk of the rear windor. It would be ok if they were removable. It is rare that anyone rides in my backseats.
