So after taking it in today for the 3rd time to get looked at I'm told my cvt is shot. No warranty.... I was curious if anyone knows when you buy a replacement does it come with the ptu or is that a separate part to order. Thanks in advance

It's been making whirling noises for about a month. Had it too 2 garages one said there was nothing wrong another said it was comming from the font diff or ptu. Today I had it in for an oil change and the mechanic noticed the seal on the tanny bottom was leaking bad. He also took it for a test ride and said it is the tranny making the noise besides the leak. He swapped out the ptu fluid for free and took it out again. No change in the noise. He said its from the out put part of the tranny due to that when you throw it in nuetraul the noise isn't present.
Jeep is an 07 with 148000 Kms on it. All regular matainance has been done. Dealer quoted me at $3900 just for the tranny, not including labor. I found a used tranny and ptu for 1000 delivered. It has 80000kms on it. Looks like I'm hooped

Another question I had.....I'm curious if the transmissions are interchangable on the jeep patriots. For example could I order a used tranny from from a different year as long as its the same model. I'm tring to track down one with fewer Kms on it. Thanks

Just make sure to replace a FDI with another FDI model. FDII has a different ring and pinion gear ratio. I would think any year would work, they didn't change anything on the tranny. And yes, the PTU is a separate piece, but most yards probably won't know or care if it's there or not.

Cool, thanks. Here's a question that might seem silly. How can I tell the difference between fd1 and fd2. I bought my jeep 2nd hand and that info was never provided. It's not trail rated or north edition. I do however have the low range gear. . Any help would save me a lot of hassle, thanks again

2007 models had the L range on both the FDI and FDII models on the gear shifter. If it's FDII though it should show an OFF-ROAD message on the dash when shifter into L and you should also have external visible clues like tow hooks, metal skid plates, etc. More than likely it's a FDI model.
