Howdy, Its been a long time since I have been on here

I am up to 88K miles on my jeep and havent had any real issues thus far until yesterday. The Jeep had been running fine, never had an issue starting it or anything

Went to the grocery story and after stocking up on food for the week, went to start the jeep and it wouldn't start. The Jeep is a 2008 2.4 liter Manual transmission Sport. I put the key in turned it into start position and didnt even seem to try to turn over. Lights on the dash came on, and the fuel guage moved to show that i had a half a tank, but no sounds when i go to start the vehicle. battery works fine. fuses took to be good.

I am thinking it may be the starter. Has anyone else had this issue? Since there was a slight slope to the parking lot, I was able to have a friend push me so i could pop the clutch and get home.

If it is the starter, any ideas how to replace one? How difficult is it in the patriot?

Do you have a security system? MILs Saturn gives exactly the same symptoms: everything is OK, but when I turn the key nothing happens. At all. Doesn't even try. Not even a grunt. If I wait 10 minutes it will start right up -- same as ever.

I'm with renospatriot on the neutral switch.

If it is a bad starter switch you might fiddle with it and get results once you find your way around the dead spot. If it is the starter itself it would probably have given you some warning.

does sound like the neutral safety switch!

Could also be a loose ground connection connection on the starter,
Try removing airfliter hose,
Slide your hand in under the engine cover,
Its a tight fit, you will get bruised and scratched up.
Feel for the cylinder shaped starter/solenoid, and feel for 2 wire connections,
One that zaps you :) is power, other is ground, make sure they are snug and Tight,
My ground connection has come loose a few times and has exact same symptoms, power to everything when you turn the key, but absolutely no clicks when you go to turn it over

Thanks everyone, but it was the starter itself. wasnt terrible to take out, about 1/2 hour or so. had to take off the air flow system to get in to take out bolts.

Too the starter to a local parts store and had them hook it up to a machine. Failed all the tests. Cost 111.00 after taxes for a new one. 1.2 hour later, ran just fine
