So I'll have my 2011 Patriot for a year this week and thought it might be appropriate to share a one-year report.

When I pulled into the driveway this evening it had 8,240 miles. That sounds low however I was sidelined for two months after rotator cuff surgery over the winter. I typically drive around 10,000 miles per year. The Jeep sat parked for six weeks without being started. It fired right up.

We drove the Jeep on a 1450 mile round trip to Canada and back last August. We averaged 24 mpg while pulling my 15' fishing boat. There was plenty of power and I only had to drop into fourth gear a couple times on long hills. It was a comfortable trip.

Overall fuel economy has been good. I have had a high average of 29 mpg and a low of 22. Combined driving stays in the 24 to 25 mpg range.

I have had it in twice for warranty work. The first time was for a warped brake rotor. The dealer ground it at first and then replaced it. The second time was for a leak around the windshield. They had a specialist come in and remove and reseal it. I have no complaints with the dealer at all. I have yet to pay for an oil change. :)

What I like: My Patriot is smooth riding and easy to drive. The interior is comfortable and easy to keep clean. There is plenty of cargo room. The fuel mileage is excellent for a CUV. There is plenty of power for a small vehicle, more than I will ever use. It is a nice looking vehicle and best of all it's a Jeep.

What I don't like: Rear visibility is awful, especially when compared to my XJ. It is difficult to back the vehicle and launch my boat while looking between the rear seat head rests. This brings me to the front seat headrests. They do not stay in place and I constantly have to lower them. The stock radio speakers are generic and will eventually be replaced.

What would I do differently? First of all I would have gotten a CVT rather than a 5 speed. The CVT is nearly bulletproof. I was ignorant regarding the reliability of the CVT before purchasing my Jeep. I would have wanted the better radio. I would have had the dealer install the trailer hitch rather then U-Haul.

So how do I feel about my Jeep after one year? I still love it. And I also intend on keeping my Jeep for 10 years. I'm happy with the vehicle and have no complaints with the overall performance or relibility of my Patriot. There is absolutely no buyers’ remorse.

Would I buy another Patriot? Absolutely. :D

Hi, I have a 2011 north 5 speed with 22000km's on it. Bought in September 2011. I Drive Montreal to Boston every week so mostly Highway use. How's you transmission? Why do I ask, I have a high pitch whinning sound in 2nd and 3rd and the dealer says it's normal! If it's normal, why only the 2nd and 3rd and not all 5?

Thanks

Good to hear you are still happy.

19,1XX miles and 11 days before my PAT is a year old.

Well, I've had mine for 3 years and a month, and a little over 33000 miles.
Only complaints were the hood adjustment, which was finally fixed right, and a creaking noise from the left front when turning at slow speeds. That was a pillow mount on top of the strut which was silenced by lubing the hell out of it.
Shifter boot got a hole in it and was replaced under warranty. Other than those, nothing. As much as 33 mpg on highway trips, though 28-30 is more common. Laughs at rain, ice and snow, even with the stock Goodyear Eagle tires. I like better in most ways than my XJ Cherokee, though I do miss the 4.0 (though not it's 17-22 mpg).
I'd buy another Patriot, but why bother? I got this one equipped just like I wanted it.

I have no whining at all. It shifts smoothly with no noise. Hope they figure out what might be causing it for you.

Glad it's working out for you!

I learned to drive with a trailer when driving trucks, and had to use the side mirrors. That actually is the best way once you learn it, rather than turning around in your seat.

Does it whine on acceleration?

I'm 4 days shy of my 1-year anniversary with 16,000 mi. I haven't had any warranty work done yet, but it did spend 2 weeks in the body shop after an encounter with a deer. It's going in next week for inspection, I'm hoping that if it needs any work, it's covered under the warranty.

I've had the riot on several long road trips(hence the mileage) and it has always performed admirably. I do wish that it was slightly less anemic in 5th gear, but I can live with it.

Regrets: I do wish that I would have been slightly more patient and just ordered it exactly the way I wanted it, although I only gave up the cold-weather and tow prep packages and the Blackberry Pearl paint, but the pigment wasn't available due to the earthquake in Japan.

Really great write up on your experiences with you Patriot.

I've had mine for a year and eight months. I've put almost 19k miles on my Patriot and I couldn't be happier. It survived a ridiculous 3'' diameter hail storm with only one sizable dent. It's also been through hell with flying rocks. I've taken it in for a few times to get the creak checked out when going slow over bumps (which is common on this forum). My 4X2 Patriot can handle almost anything and I've been pretty surprised at what it can handle. I think I'll keep the Patriot for a long time to come..

I've had my 2011 Pat for a year now. Just passed the 1-year mark on April 18.

24.5K miles, mostly highway, with one road trip from NH to IN last fall. It averages a solid 29 mpg on the highway, 26 city. Best I've gotten was 32 mpg on the road trip. Manual transmission.

I LOVE THIS VEHICLE!!!

Can I say it enough?

I am short, so yes, the blind spot in back is amplified, but knowing that going into it, it's the only complaint I have.

I will keep this and drive it until it can't be driven no more... :)

As of April 9, 2012 I've owned my Patriot 2 years. Have a little over 12,000 miles. This is due to the fact I was laid off twice in the last two years, each time for about 3 months. I now have a job 8 miles from my home, so most of my trips are short ones. Things I love - it goes great in the snow. Good gas mileage. Like the auto stick, especially going down hills in the winter and like the CVT. Things I hate - ream dome light leak! Had it in twice for that. Last times was Sept. 2010 and it has been ok since, so long as I don't park on a slant with the front end higher than the back (ridiculous, huh?) This past week I noticed it leaking through the rear hatch, so I am calling the dealer tomorrow about that. Would I buy another Patriot? - probably not but only because of the leak issues.

Open your hatch and take a real hard look at where the hose for your rear washer penetrates the body of the vehicle.

there is a grommet on the hose opening, around the hose. Lots of folks report water entering the rear area at that point.

Silicone would be your friend in that case.

Very true. However, have you ever try backing a Wrangler soft-top with a trailer that's too short and too narrow to be seen from the windows or in the mirrors? I finally got marker sticks for the trailer so I can see where it is.

That said, I've got about 10 times the miles on my Patriot as DoubleD, and still no repairs. :) . . . Unless you count the TPMS sensors. Now THERE'S a bad idea: even one bad sensor will waste more money than you'd ever save in gas mileage unless all your tires were hopelessly underinflated all the time.
