Here it is guys. There is a really Jeep diesel engine mod that works. They are saying it is for the CJ, YJ, TJ and JK. They say it is best for the JK and takes less of a mod to do so. It is a 4-banner turbo diesel built by Cummings. 402lb-ft of torque at 2,100 and off idle is 280lb-ft. 140hp at 2,700 rpm. It was able to give the JK Unlimited 28 mpg city and 32 highway with 37" tires, 4" lift, stock 44 and 30 dana axles, 3.73:1 gears and rear locker. That is crazy. It has a special tranmission Raptor GM 700R4 which is an automatic. The transfer case is changed NVG2410R Rock-Trac/4.0:1. It still off roads like a champ. They say it is even better.

It is sweet. The bad news is
When customer supplies the jeep the base package is $ 21,500 and it goes up from there depending on build sheet.
It costs a lot to do. In good new
Yes, Bruiser diesel conversions offer a filtration system for W.V.O. (waste vegetable oil) as well as heated fuel tanks for jeeps.
The website. I would like to see one in a Patriot. It would be sweet if it would work. If it didn't cost so much I would buy a JK and put it in there.

What do you guy think?

Well, I like it. If they started selling a 30 MPG 4x4 Wrangler or Grand Cherokee from the dealer, then my FDII Patriot would be the impractical one of the three.

Yea, but it would still be great to have a 30 mpg Wrangler in the States. I don't see why not putting it in the Pat would be a problem. I bet the mpg would be better.

I have never understood why the CRD was not in the Pat here in North America. I understand we over here are not big on diesels, but even adding $2000 to priace tag for a CRD would have it in line pricewise with it;s main competition.

Yea it would be nice, but I am sure it would be more than 2000 dollar upgrade. I am sure if the Patriot would get 30 city and 40 highway with a diesel engine it would sell.

You don't need to spend $21,000 to put a Cummins 4BT into a jeep though. Find an old GM P30 Bread truck for $1000 and you have most of your drive train minus the transfer case. It's an all aluminum truck, so scrap what's left for the coin to buy a 4x4 trans. Then go here for all sorts of free help with the conversion: http://www.4btswaps.com

Oh and the Cummins 4BT is a 3.9L engine and it is LOUD.

Yeah, I was going to buy a Jeep and put a diesel engine in it before I got the Patriot.

Rosco it is just like people buying electric cars. If you take a new Pat vs a new diesel vw. You save a good bit of money with the VW in the long run even with the higher price of diesel.

My point exactly. I'd trade my Patriot in on a diesel Wrangler if they offered it in the next 2 years

We used to get the 2.0L diesel by VW with 6spd manual in the original Patriot here in Australia from 07-08. I don't think we ever saw the 2.2L Mercedes diesel, and we've only had the 2.0L [more recently in the FWD] and 2.4L petrol [gasoline] engines since then.

You can opt for the lousy 2.8L CRD Mercedes diesel in our Wranglers for a mere $5000. I think for that money you also get a 5spd automatic transmission, but I am not sure if that is included in the cost or not. I'm told he 2.7L CRD featured in the Grand Cherokee is a much better engine.

Yah it is the age old question of whether the extra cost is worth it. At $5000 premium on a Pat, I am not sure I would buy a diesel. I just don't drive enough to get the savings out of it. I think if you look at most comparisons of say a Jetta TDI vs. another gas compact sedan, you are looking at 7-10 years + to break even.

The extra mileage and torque however could be huge for someone towing or offroading. I see this being a bigger benefit in the GC or Wrangler.

I've heard nothing but good things about the 07 CRD cherokee that was offered here in the states.

I drove one of the Liberty's with the 2.8L CRD (and I think the Grand Cherokee got the 3.0L diesel here in the states) and it was a LOUD engine. It drove perfectly fine though with plenty of power and normal feeling handling. Sadly the mileage figures weren't that great though.
