Hi, I've read a fair bit about grinding noises when gear changing, but I have an issue that repeatedly I can't get the Pat into a gear once I have taken it out of gear. It just won't go back into gear, let alone make any noise when trying. There is also a lack of pressure in the clutch pedal. If I turn the engine off it will go into gear, but not when the engine is running.

If I then repeatedly press and release the clutch about 6 times, pressure seems to come back to the clutch pedal and I can then change gears with no problem.

The brake/clutch resevoir level looks to fine and not going down. Its an 08 manual 2 litre diesel, but after the last day, I've got fed up with having to pump the clutch back up every 15 minutes or so......

Anyone seen this, or have any ideas..........thanks

It'll either be the clutch master cylinder or the slave cylinder that is going bad. I ruled out a bad clutch fluid line since the reservoir level is fine.

Ditto! Probably master cylinder. Slave cylinders tend to lose fluid when they go bad. At least thats what happened to mine the few times i have had problems. Sounds like a bad bladder not keeping the pressure in the master.

Thanks for the replys......after a 50 mile drive back home and not enjoying several experiences of not being able to select a gear without a quick pumping of the clutch in neutral, I've taken it to the dealer for them to look at.

Should something like this be going on a 4 year old 38K car ?

it's a jeep,man.and a cheap one.
i had to replace the whole clutch on my 2.0crd after getting stuck in snow.
i managed to get out ending with smoke and a terrible smell from under the pat.
30 km later, that would be about 20 miles later,it started slipping and then just stopped.
i replaced:clutch disc, pressure plate, flywheel, release bearing and the rear crankshaft seal they found losing a bit of oil.
all parts exchanged were mopar.
being in europe and it being a vw engine,we managed to find sachs-made in germany and original vw supplier- parts for everything.
so now i have a real clutch,1000 euros later aswell.
btw,the mechanic looked puzzled when he saw the quality of the disc he removed.
he said he never saw such bad material on a disc in his life, and he is very experienced as a rallye driver aswell.

I just replaced a 2010 jeep patriot fwd. 2.0 clutch and slave cylinder, bled the system, top off the reservoir thank by the master cylinder.
Ive never own a jeep patriot before so I don't know what the clutch should feel like pressure wise.
My concern is that after doing all this work, I didn't feel any difference in the pedal pressure . Until I started pumping it a few times it gained some pressure. And was able to drive. I ll keep updating info as I keep on driving it and see if it acts up again or this took care of my pressure problem.

Any comments or ideas on this pumping pedal concern.
Is it normal or can it be related to another issue??
Thanks
