Kind of like President Obama, Hope and Change and look whats happened.
30 yrs ago we had Ronald Reagan, Bob Hope and Johnny Cash. Now we got Obama, no Hope, and no Cash....

-3 miles per gallon when using that 10% ethanol junk too I believe.
Florida where I am dilutes their gas this way, guess it helps out the oil companies to make 10% more profit.
Actually while I am no fan of oil companies I believe adding 10% ethanol actually cuts into their profits. At least initially when it 1st was mandated( 2006 )and for a few years thereafter ethanol was expensive for the blenders to buy( couldn't keep up with demand for it thus the price was very high ). That made gas with it more expensive to make than without. Perhaps now that the infrastructure is there to produce ethanol in more volumn it is cheaper? Just in time for the ban on importing sugar cane ethanol from Brazil to have been lifted. :icon_rolleyes:

I hate ethanol blended fuels. Our state has E10 all year round as the ethanol was used to replace MTBE here. Not only does it lead to a drop in fuel economy( approx 2 MPG in my truck when it hit the pumps here )but it has a short shelf life which leads to all kinds of issues when it sits and it is very corrosive on the fuel system. Turns out it is not as environmentallly friendly( emmissions )as they told us at 1st as well.

Never understood the logic behind mandating an additive for fuel that REDUCES MPG during a fuel crisis.

Sorry I didn't address the tire question. Stock Goodyear Wrangler SR-A's 215/65R17.

I got my 2012 Patriot 4x4 5-speed on Dec. 31st. So far the milage has been between a low of 24 and a high of 32. It has most often registered in the 27 to 29 range. Here in Oklahoma I can still get 100% gasoline although there are many 10% ethanol pumps around. Ethanol milage is not very good compared to real gasoline. I have a Chevrolet the I discovered this on about 4 years ago. It usually gets 28 mpg on the highway and I started averaging 23 suddenly. It seems the station I used to fill up at went to the 10% ethanol blend. I have tried to stay away from ethinol ever since. It is difficult to do in other states as I don't think pure gasoline is available every where.

Hello all. This is a first post for me. I bought my 2012 Patriot 4x4 Freedom Drive I back in January 2012. Here's what i've observed. Gas Mileage was disappointing initially but has improved. Also my dealer went ahead and put the cross bars on top of my jeep for me. Um yank them off and you will see an improvement as well. Plus your jeep won't whistle at you. LOL I traded an 06 Kia Rio that would get 35 mpg regularly but the family needed room. I was happy to see that my average hit 25.3 mpg today (Feb 10, 2012) Though at the last fillup I calculated out about 23.9 mpg Still for a vehicle of this size I'm thrilled. Going off road a bit this Weekend so It should take a hit for that but hey whats the point of having a 4x4 if you don't take it somewhere different.

Fixing the whistle

Also my dealer went ahead and put the cross bars on top of my jeep for me. Um yank them off and you will see an improvement as well. Plus your jeep won't whistle at you.
There's something in the installation instructions about the front crossbar needing to be a couple slots back if you're not carrying a load, or it will whistle. If the dealer didn't read the instructions when they mounted them, that could explain the whistle. Unless they handed off the instructions to you, you wouldn't have seen that either.

ROOF LUGGAGE RACK — IF EQUIPPED

The crossbars and siderails are designed to carry the
weight on vehicles equipped with a luggage rack. The
load must not exceed 150 lbs (68 kg), and should be
uniformly distributed over the luggage rack crossbars
NOTE: If not equipped with crossbars, your authorized
dealer can order and install MOPAR crossbars built
specifically for this roof rack system.
Distribute cargo weight evenly on the roof rack crossbars.
The roof rack does not increase the total load carrying
capacity of the vehicle. Be sure the total load of cargo
inside the vehicle plus that on the external rack does not
exceed the maximum vehicle load capacity.
The optional crossbars must also be secured in one of the
seven detent positions marked with an arrow on the
siderails to prevent movement. To move the crossbars,
loosen the thumb screws located at the upper edge of
each crossbar approximately eight turns, then move the
crossbar to the desired position, keeping the crossbars
parallel to the rack frame. Once the crossbar is in one of
the seven detent positions, retighten the thumb screws to
lock the crossbar into position.

NOTE:
• To help control wind noise when the crossbars are not
in use, place the front crossbar in the first detent from
the front of the vehicle and the rear crossbar in the
second detent from the rear of the vehicle.

• If the rear crossbar (or any metallic object) is placed
over the satellite radio antenna (if equipped), you may
experience interruption of satellite radio reception. For
improved satellite radio reception, place the rear crossbar
in the second detent from the rear of the vehicle
when not in use.
• The grab handles on the back of the vehicle (if
equipped) are not to be used as a towing feature.
