I'm sure I've read it elsewhere but am I right in thinking that the Outlander and the Patriot share the same suspension, brakes and drivetrain and that conversely it should be possible to use upgraded Outlander shocks to improve the suspension on the Patriot?

Any thoughts on this?

part no's are different for the two in the kyb (kayaba) catalogue,so i don't know...
the parts might still be the same, but it would take measuring to tell,i guess...

Rear suspension on an Outlander is completely different. They use a swing arm with the spring on the arm to the frame and just a normal shock absorber in the rear (not a strut or spring seat). Our Patriots are actually more like the Lancer (including the EVO). The all aluminum Evo front control arms look identical to our stamped steel ones.

Ok Thanks for the reply....so if the front is similar to the EVO then it would potentially be possible to use reinforced gravel rally spec components from an EVO as an upgrade...I will have to search for images of the EVO set up.

I reckon there are enough similarities to allow for some experimentation especially if it improves things!

Chrysler and Mitsubishi relationship goes way back, back in 70s in Australia Mits and Chry were selling the exact same cars in and out with different badge on them. I would say that GEMA was on of the key competitive advantage of this alliance in recent years but happy times never last, they didn't really manage to leverage that to compete on pricing and efficiency to their rivals and than Fiat came in..... the story goes on...

Had a look under one of our 2011 Police Outlander's today and took these photos as a comparison to the Patriot underneath...the rear suspension arm and drop link appear very similar to the Patriot.

Jeep photo borrowed from Gramps for illustration purposes!

2011 Model and yes drivetrain is the same from what I can see, only difference is that 2wd can be selected or Auto 4wd or locked 4wd it rides on 215/70r16 tyres.

i wonder about the front.

Couldn't really get a decent pic of the front, will try again in the week, took these pictures of the visible part of the front strut..it appears the spring is larger.

I believe the bottom arms to be very similar and if they are the same as the Lancer Evo then it is possible to get rally spec uprated ones which would improve the durability of the front end...also looking at the back end it appears to have a larger anti-roll bar which holds posibilities for uprating as well.

Yea, my co-workers outlander had a very similar (to ours) front suspension as well but the front spring definitely had a much larger diameter. The Outlander front spring would sit on our spring guard.

same platform (but not size):
Dodge: caliber, avenger, journey
Chrysler: Sebring, 200
Jeep: Compass, Patriot
Mitsu: lancer, outlander

a lot of same components, engines, tranny in some cars etc etc... but the mitsu engines with less HP
