Well guys, I've made a decision to order my Patriot tomorrow....my dealer told me today that I can now order the off-road option....so I'm still having a hard time deciding whether to go FD1 or FDII?

I'm ordering a Limited 4x4, (light khaki) loaded up except NAV and uconnect hands-free communication (I don't talk on phones in the car)...also in Canada... Jeep is offering a free 12 mth subscription to Sirius radio so I am going to get that option just to try it out for 12 months...

so, do I go for FDI or FDII....here's what I am thinking about...

I like the better gas mileage of FDI (Note: you can purchase the all terrain tires separately as well as the full spare tire as options and the fog lamps/adj seat come with the limited model)

but, on the other hand, I like the higher ground clearance and I'm thinking that the low gear might help if I go to camp and end up in a snowstorm with a foot of snow in the driveway (I'm not much for rockcrawling, especially with a new vehicle that will be financed)...

I'm used to driving G.C's....so not sure if that makes a difference but....

What to do???

I would think about when you want to take delivery. The FD II will definitely take more time. It seems no one can get a consistent answer about their availability date. Let us know what kind of pricing you get.

Not an issue since my mother doesn't use her car very much and she will allow me to use hers until mine comes in...

I will personally go with FD I. I don't plan on going off road. Mostly city driving. I'm sure that will upset some people on the board. But considering the conditions you may have to deal with. Maybe some of the other more experienced members can give you some advice.

The research i've done shows the FDI with manual is a fun combo and i'm torn as well between fdI and fdII.

I'm leaning towards the FDI as an awd snow solution for our winters w/ stick for summer fun. But yes the Tire/Wheel combo is a MUST for FDI. If the FDII came with manual + low gear this would be a no brainer. If you go CVT anyway you may as well go for the fdII and wait it out.

Whatever you decide when you agree to the sirius upgrade you mentioned find out if it changes the main stero head unit. This may remove the AUX jack and any ipod usefullness. I'm not sure on this but I would sure want to know before taking the upgrade. I think the base unit is the only one with the jack and its a single cd disc / radio.

I've owned a manual before but I think I'm going to stick with the CVT this time (I would have gone with a 5 speed auto if it had been offered)....Thanks for the tip about Sirius....ya I will definitely check out the story on that...

Yeah...let us know. I'm curious about that as well. We have XM radio in Hubby's car. But if it came down to a choice between sat radio or my MP3 in my car, I'd choose the MP3 jack.

I had a Caliber R/T with Sirius radio in it and it removed the aux jack for my I pod. Since I believe the radios are the same in all three cars, getting sirius would remove the aux jack in the patriot as well.

Hey Frosty, any details on pricing?
I haven't order it yet...still trying to figure out options....

Sorry, I don't believe I can share pricing given that my brother works for Chrysler and I will be getting employee pricing because of this relationship (I have been told that I could lose this priviledge in doing so and I don't want to cause any trouble for my brother who needs this job)....I will say that they don't make a lot of money on these small vehicles...they have very narrow margins...it's a lot different than if you were buying a Commander Overland, for example...
