0-100kmh in 11 seconds (me only) makes a pain of highway driving especially overtaking and accelerating up to the speed limit with traffic barreling down on you. That's not even taking into account passengers or cargo.

On the freeway revving it to over 4000rpm to keep it at the speed limit with 4 passengers is not my idea of fun and that makes highway fuel consumption 9.5L/100km.
Best consumption I have seen is 8.6L/100 and it was a hard job getting it there.

At least with the 300c V8 it is more fun and sounds awesome. I am willing to pay for more fuel when I am enjoying myself.

I cant stand the CVT transmission either. I think that adds to the slow feeling.
Normal auto or manual for me only from now.

If I had a small 4 cylinder with no power and was getting 6L/100kms then I would be fine, because at least its costing me F.A in fuel. But now I have a 4 cylinder with not much power and stuff all torque and getting 11.1L/100kms combined.

My Patriot test drive was not long enough I guess. I have no idea what I was thinking when buying it. The novelty wore off after 6 months and since then I have been trawling through pages and pages of online car sales looking for something.

****ing now I have made myself angry. Buying the Patriot was $10,000 pissed down the drain :( Would of been better to keep my old car, fix the problems with it and then set 10,000 dollars on fire.
I have an 08 FDII. It gets up and goes whenever I need it to... no it's not my old camaro, but that's not what I bought it for. Everytime I've needed to speed up to get on the freeway, it's made plenty of space for me...

Also, do you live on the Autobahn or something? Cuz mine hovers around 3000rpm at 70+mph... and again.... i have FDII which is known for revving higher than the others because of it's lower gears. So if you're doing 4000rpm to do the speed limit, then you don't know how to drive the thing.

Don't give the car a 2. Give your decision making a 2. You test drove the thing and decided to buy it even though it's nothing like what you wanted. In that sense, yes, you pi$$ed your money away.

The car is what it is. It has it's fair share of issues. I couldn't give it a 5/5... i WISH I could have a Wrangler, but it's not what I needed. I needed a good, safe family car with decent gas mileage for a low price. Plus this one has 4x4 and lots of other pluses for the price. I've got a 7 year old and one on the way. As soon as the youngest is old enough to climb in and out of a Wrangler by themselves, maybe I'll get one. Most likely I'll find an old one for offroading and a fun drive once a week and keep the Pat for my DD

You paid 10k for the car. My guess is, a big, gass guzzling vehicle that you WANT, for the same price, would have twice the mileage, twice the age and probably half the features.

yeah really....the speed limit in aus is 90 mph plus I guess.

I will even swap you your patriot for my suburban...you pay shipping both ways!

4 for me. I love the car but haven't had it long enough to know of its problems. Another 50,000km should tell me the true story. All I know so far is that gas consumption is pretty good, the speed is ok, the comfort is great and changing the radio was incredibly easy. If the Patriot still exists when it's time to change this one, I'm likely going to buy another one.

I wish.

I paid $34,500 for it drive away. So lets say the car cost me $32,000... not including interest on the loan.
For a trade in will only get $20,000 for it now. Hopefully would get a bit more for a private sale. Therefore $10,000 gone in 1 year.

Reved it to over 4000rpm up a hill with about 200kg of passengers to keep it steady at 110kmh. That is bad compared to other cars I drive.

YOU PAID 34K FOR A PATRIOT??! :wow:

I'd be p!$$ed too, GEEZ. I can't bring myself to buy new cars. I bought mine with 24k miles, loaded, FDII for about 17k.

Yeah, if I could afford $34k, I would honestly have gotten a brand new Wrangler all day. Cuz at that price I would be able to afford the 4-door unlimited.

I paid 33k cdn for my pat too. Limited with every option.

IMHO, you just bought the wrong vehicle for you. What do expect from a 4 cylinder SUV? OF COURSE it is going to be slow. You are also not going to get Ford Fiesta gas mileage from an SUV, it is that simple.

That's a good point with import taxes. When I was overseas, all of the people were hot over the Toyota Camry. They were very expensive. Meanwhile, the cab drivers drove POS Mercedes Benz.
When I was in spain, I saw a lot of the fords and fiats everywhere. Nobody drove any suvs. I saw 1 mini van and 1 large suv the entire 4 months i was there. All their cars are compact and easy to park. I would want a ford fiesta if i was there since parking is a pain in the butt there. I also saw 1 or 2 corvettes hahahahaha. Its the the super car for spainards there i guess.

I'll give mine a 4 but that rating is sinking fast.

Pros:

Love the way it looks on the outside. Love the interior on the inside. Love the color. Love the winter traction. Love that it is a Jeep. Love that it was screwed together in the USA.

Cons:

Gas mileage is sub par. The best I (or my wife) can do is 21mpg. I could get 19 out of my old 4.0 Cherokee and that ancient engine was almost twice a big. The rear cargo area needs to be about a foot longer. The roof needs to be an inch higher or the seats an inch lower. I can't see the traffic lights when stopped at a red light. The biggest gripe of all is Chrysler needs to be able to get what the consumer wants. I wanted the tow package, none to be found. It's been a real pain in the ass trying round up and install the parts to be able to tow. Especially when Mopar doesn't even know what correctly works in our Jeeps ie- Oil cooler kit....Having to go this route is costing me triple what it would of have cost if I could have got it from the factory.

Here is the tricky part - long term reliability. At 1200 miles, I have developed an intermittent vibration during acceleration making a left turn. It also vibrates sometimes going straight. Sometimes when you step on the throttle, nothing happens. No revs, nothing. The newest thing is now the engine died while backing up and turning hard left. It has only done this once, hopefully a fluke. And we all know how intermittent problems are such a pain to diagnost and how the dealer really tries to get it figured out and fixed. At least I have a warranty to fall back on....

I would give it 5 for my first 2500 miles. I got in a pretty bad accident and I would trust my life in it. It also gets great mpg (last fill up was 27.5 mpg) and it has good offroad performace, I am going to really test it this weekend on a trail rated a 6 on trialdamage.com. I also like the stylish outside and the inside looks nice. I also love the manual transmition. I wouldn't ever buy a vehicle without it.

In the previous model Grand Cherokee, the cheapest was $60,000
Srt8 was $94,000
Import taxes, luxury car taxes, right hand drive conversion, Seriously car prices here are ****ed up.
If I had a second car, I wouldn't mind also having the patriot. But having only the Patriot to drive all day every day is irritating.

Main reason I bought Patriot was It looks cool in profile, it could fit my bike in the back and it has slight off road capabilities.
Now my new bike doesn't even fit in the back, and I want more off road abilities. Therefore the Patriot no longer meets my needs and I cant help find bad points with it since I am trying to justify getting rid of it.
It's not a bad car overall. It just doesn't suit me anymore.

I was on average pay when I bought the Patriot, now I am making $30,000 more a year, so I think I might as well cut my losses and move up to something that suits me better. But it is hard to sell a car that is 1.5 years old and only has 28,000kms on it.

5.
1) I really don't want to trade, but if the model is ending, I'm thinking about it.
2) I love the gas mileage!
3) Comfortable on the highway, but its not a Buick.
4) I don't need 4WD (see my recent post on an accidental off-road experience), and it will go anywhere on the roads in snow even w/out 4WD.
5) 65,000 miles and no repairs.

4

Pros

Looks great!
Handles great!
Rides great!
Off road capability
Price

Cons

Small fuel tank, my range is 320 kms, then I have 20 kms to get gas or I am SOL
MPG for the FDII -> a 2.4L engine should not take almost as much gas as a Ford F150

EDIT

The snow is mostly gone in my hunting territory. I am taking my Pat up my mountain trail during the Easter long weekend. If it makes it up there, I will give it a 4.5. If not, I will give it a 3 and trade it in for a Wrangler as soon as financially possible.
