Day after I collected my car I took it for a drive and it started misfiring under load with a lumpy idle.

Normal driving doesn't do it but if I accelerate hard to overtake or put it under load to go uphill it misfires, not showing check engine light.

Also there is a rumbling vibration from the front nearside which sounds and feels like the driveshft or at best a bearing although I also have my doubts over the diff!!

Any way dealer is coming to pick the car up this morning and leave me a courtesy car so we will see what the verdict is later in the day.

Has to be said at 22,000 miles to have a driveshaft or wheelbearing issue is a bit of a letdown.:(

i am a bit confused here.
you posted this thread today at 10.23 am as it appears on the forum.
in it you say you are not happy and describe your problems with your pat.
then you start a thread called scottish patriot, according to the forum at 11.06 am,saying how happy you are with your pat,and even getting some comments from fellow pat owners.
how is it that you are unhappy in the first one and happy in the second,or is it that they are different patriots (i mean you own two)?

BUSTED! You really are happy! Oh wait, it looks like you started the other thread 3 days ago...

Sorry to hear about the issues. Hopefully it gets taken care of under warranty

Misfire??????? Do an early fuel filter change .It cured mine !! Cant help with the other bits , I had very few probs !!

Sounds like maybe a bad tank of gas or something. Perhaps there is some water in the fuel? See if the local autoparts store sells Heet (or similar water dispersement fuel treatment). Possibly check/replace the air filter too, it may be really clogged. As for the rumbling, under hard acceleration, the AWD system will transfer more power to the rear to provide greater stability. On mine, this does produce a slight vibration and low rumble as the center drive shaft bearing takes the extra load, but nothing I would call excessive. Still I'd have the dealer check the fluid levels on the PTU and RDU units to be sure.

*EDIT* Ah, and I see you have the CRD, definitely have the fuel filter changed as Tiptronic suggested. Many CRD owners seemed to have some issues with the factory supplied filter. It must not have much internal filtering surface area.

I've had similar AWD systems on other cars this is definitely a driveshaft issue, noisier on right hand turns.

The car was serviced prior to collection and I've checked it had a new filter, the fuel in it was put in by the dealer and covered 100+ trouble free miles before misfire started, I initially thought dodgy fuel as well but discounted it due to distance covered.

Yes the other thread was started when I got the car and this one started Monday morning on return from my nightshift, I'm still happy with the vehicle just not happy at the problems on a low mileage vehicle

Well, it's a diesel, so it's either a lean or rich fuel misfire. How about checking that all the turbo pipes/clamps are tight and secure? Maybe an air intake leak is letting the boost out or something? Does this model have the exhaust particulate filters? maybe they need a cleaning? (we don't have the diesel here in North America, so I don't know much about the emission systems installed)

Not sure to be honest and its already gone to the dealer to get checked out, hopefully hear today what is wrong.

Although I got a courtesy car it wasn't quite what I would class as suitable........a Suzuki Swift! I'm 6' 3" and look quite comical in it! It only does 40.8mpg compared to the 43.9 I was getting from the Patriot! Never mind, at least its not costing me anything!:)

OK...the results are in.....it needed a new filter as the recently replaced one had collapsed internally (faulty manufacture), new driveshaft and the suspension arm has been replaced as well.

Waiting for the driveshft to come in, so stuck with the Suzuki for another day or so:mad:

Stiil at least I was right and there was an issue!

Fuel Filter!!!!!.....I bloody well knew it !!!---My cure all for Patriot Diesel misfires !!!

I wonder if the 2.2 CRD will have the same problem??

Ladies and Gentlemen....We have a winner!!!!
:)

This Forum gets a bit like a TV Quiz show......My Mrs says " Stop shouting Fuel Filter at that lap top--they can probably hear you in Scotland, Canada & the USA "

I say " Its a Jeep thing , you wouldnt understand " so she says " You no longer have a Jeep you got rid of it for some reason"

And I say " Oh bloody hell -so I did !!"

:D:notworthy: That made me laugh!

I'm glad its all under warranty! Could have been expensive.....

Right it seems I was given duff information, the driveshaft was changed it was the suspension arm they were waiting for and now a week later I am STILL without my vehicle.......all I get from the dealer is "tomorrow, tomorrow, with luck, fingers crossed tomorrow"!:mad::mad::mad::mad:

When I was in the RAF I could order a spare from the Falklands or Hong Kong and have it in my hands in the North of Scotland at most two days later!

I'm so annoyed by this, it only has to come from England so what the hell is taking so long?????????

well.to be honest everything seems so slow in the uk,so i am not surprised.
it took bt 2 weeks to turn on my phone (line was in the house i lived in),and another 2 to get me broadband, when i lived in the uk 3 years ago.
same service in romania takes at most three hours.

Spoke to them again today and they said Jeep were movingto a new warehouse and that had caused delays after a five day shutdown!

Again they said they have been prromised "tomorrow" and that I "might" get the car back Thursday or Friday!!! :(

OK....Update....Car delivered back to me at 10am this morning, took it up the road to test it and surprise surprise the noise is still there!!!!:(:(:(

Going to take it to a mate who owns a garage and have him diagnose it before taking it back to the dealer again!

They better give me a decent courtesy car this time, my back couldn't take another day in a Suzuki Swift let alone ten days!

My dealer always gave me a brand new Journey SE CRD 6 speed.

Right having driven it more today I am beginning to think it is possibly drivetrain related, possibly a diff or a propshaft bearing issue, hopefully get it up on a ramp at my mate's and listen to it from underneath as it drives and hopefully isolate the problem.

Anybody else had strange drivetrain noises like a rumbling vibration?

The other option I will try is rotating the tyres to see if that changes the noise.

I must admit that apart from a slight misfire ( Fuel filter , fixed at 2nd service ) & drivers door locks freezing up during bad winter ( Fixed under warranty) ---I had no problems that concerned me during my Patriot ownership---Smooth , comfy , economical & quiet!!
