This is a great site for all kinds of information. I drive a 2007 Patriot 4x4 with 158,000 Km and still works good. I Just changed the alternator yesterday, cause of the bearings ,and let me tell you ,the book say's 0.7 hours to change, well it should say 4.0 hours .

Hello and welcome to the site! Was it the alternator bearings themselves, or just the bearings in the belt pulley damper thingy (I forget the exact name they call it).

welcome TCT, i have not changed my alternator yet, but i must admit that .7 hours to do the job seems to short to me.
o.7 is what the book allows you , maybe if the engine is out of it. One of the hardest part was taking the electrical connection off of the back of it.I couldn't believe it when they told me at the Dodge dealership that it would cost $560.00 for a new one. So I went to the junk yard and bought one from a 2009 or 2010 compass with low Km for $75.00 and the battery $25.00 as mine was getting weak

$560 for altnernator? ouch
had mine replaced at dealer,
just over $200 installed.

and yes some parts that used be able to change on side of road with ease
are now a pain to change,
anyone play with their starter yet?
mine went out and i couldnt even reach it to bang it.

I used to have a Buick, and to change the spark plugs, it was a 6 cyl, for the 3 at the firewall, they suggested you unbolt the motor mounts, and lift that half of the engine to reach the plugs.

But the water pump just unbolted and slid right out, not even any belts to remove.

So some things were better.
