Hi,
just looking around has anyone ever ordered and or using the performance chip from http://www.performancechipsdirect.com they have them for the jeep patriot so far i have only found 3 that offer it.

the claim is 4-7mpg and up to 60hp it does have a "lifetime warranty, money back guarantee, daily phone support, and same day shipping. and its 69.99 they however did not have the years broke down for the patriot models... so it seemed kind of general anyone ever use this please? im looking for a chip i have had great performance with ford diesel etc...

From their website:
You'll locate your vehicle's IAT sensor and your new Chip will be installed via the factory harness
Pass on this. All it does is modify the intake air temp sensor reading. You can make your own "chip" to do the same thing for just a few dollars at radio shack along with a digital volt meter to read resistance. Then just buy a few resistor packs to to send a hot or cold air temp signal to the ecu (based on resistance). You'll never see 60+hp from this nor 4-7 mpg increase. You might see a 1-2 mpg increase if you send a full hot air temp signal (which tricks the ECU into a leaner mixture), but you'll probably lose a few horsepower while doing it.

As others will reply, this is snake oil. It's not even a real "chip", it's just a variable resistor setup.

Ah the old snake oil.... Darn!!!!! oh well thanks for the great info i'll pass it on to any other performance chip hunters have you or anyone else ran in to any other then this and the volo? i heard bad things about that one too, im working on the 2.99 intake from jeep high in feb once i'm back in Cali.

The Volo one is the only one that I know of that plugs into the OBD port, so it truly interacts with the factory ECU and doesn't just "fool" it with bogus signals. I think it actually temporary flashes modified tables into the ECU which changes what the ECU does at certain sensor readings. Earthworm runs one and he says it works great. No one else has made any other flash programmer for the Patriot as yet. I'd love to have superchips or some of the other big "tuner programmer" companies support us, but I don't think they ever will as there just isn't going to be a huge market for it.

Superchip would be amazing, im going to send them an email anyways maybe a couple of people would get them thinking i wouldn't mind spending couple hundred for a good chip haha thanks for the info.

What? With as many cars that use this engine?

I actually sent an email to superchip and they responded with "currently have no plans for that model at this time"

i was so mad haha
You're never going to see the same kind of increase with a gasser as you did with your Powerstroke.

It may be a widely used engine, but that doesn't mean the ECU or the programming is the same. Here's an example:

2006 model year Dodge Dakota 4.7L engine, SuperChips Part number: 3865

2006 model year Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7L engine, SuperChips Part #: 3875

Same year and engine, but different programmer required for the ECU.

I agree with Earthworm. Call me old school, but if I'm looking for "Bang for the Buck", Im gonna roll with intake and exhaust. IMHO, those chips are snake oil.

It looks like the VP11 is not listed for the 2010 Patriot?

I had not heard of the Volo chip until reading about it on this forum. Tempting at sixty bucks...

Interesting comment by Earthworm about the exhaust. Many years ago, I replaced the stock exhaust on my 1984 Honda Accord with a open flow muffler, was loud, I don't recall if it improved performance, but I do remember that a few months later the valves were badly carboned up and had to be cleaned - apparently due to the lack of back-pressure?

There is concern to be had when you have your engine running too lean or too rich. The CAI and better exhaust option is the safest bet. Instead of tricking the computer give it more air! You'll get more power, but don't go on "pinks all out" with it.

That said, I don't think it needs more power really. That is not what its about. But neither is a Honda Civic, never stopped any of those goofy bastards from bolting on a bunch of crap for 10 more HP.

I wish they would have had a v6 option for 2011 and everyone would be happier!

Well, not everyone, as I chose the Patriot for the mileage. I can get the off road capabilities, and even better, in other vehicles, but I couldn't find the combination of mileage and capability in other vehicles.

Well you could have gotten a CR-V. :D lol! But the option would have been good. Although, better than that- an SRT model with stronger components and a turbo. It would have been expensive, but I bet they would have sold.

For the diesel 2.0CRD owners there is better news as we have the VW engine and allows plenty of aftermarket chips. I'm thinking to go for ATM-chiptuning( http://www.atm-chiptuning.com , sorry only in Dutch) , they have a testfacility and they told me that the 2.0CRD can easily be tuned to 170HP and 400nm torque without damaging the engine, turbo or tranny.
The cost would be 350€.
