not sure if im posting this in the right place...who knows...it could be elecrtical,,,,but what happened was i pulled into an old ripped up parking lot to make a turn back the way i was coming and hit a pretty big bump/pothole....nothing big enough i didnt thinnk my 09 patriot couldnt handle,,,seeing it is a jeep,,,,but my car completely died....i put it in park and it started right back up soo idk,,,i checked my battery cables and stuff and it looked fine...im also clueless about engines soo idk,,,,i also just got an oil change and inspection the day before At my dealer,,,,any clues???
hit a bump,,,,car died...hmmm?

That sounds really strange. I guess it depends on how fast you hit it but my best guess would be something with ESP system and traction control. Maybe the bump caused one of the wheels to spin a lot so the computer cut throttle and stalled it out?

Is your Patriot cvt or manual? Just curious if it was the esp issue and and manual, it just stalled from lack of gas. If you were going slow enough with not enough fuel and the engine tried boosting power it could have caused a stall... just a thought.

its an automatic. wasnt going too fast at all..maybe 5-10mph...was doing a full circle in a parking lot to exit and go back the other way,,,it was the only -u-turn type place soo i took it...beat up lot...lotsa ripped up tar/holes/bumps.
ty again for everyones thoughts...hasnt happened since and never happened before,,,,patriot is a 09 with just over 14k miles.

How many miles on your Patriot. I'm dealing with a problem where the insulation on a wire for the ignition has worn through and shorts out every so often. It could be a wire has worn on your vehicle, and hitting a bump causes it to make contact and kill the engine. When cars die instantly, it is 99% chance it is electrical.
Of course, problems that come and go are notoriously difficult to find and correct. (even by experts)

i only have 14k miles on it. like i said its a 2009. automatic. hasnt happened at all since and ive purposely hit a few pretty big bumps when i see them. me and my family usually take some pretty long trips on weekends (usually use my wifes commander but the riot sometimes) and with my luck itll happen 200 miles from boston (home) with the 6 month old in a dirty diaper and the 6 yr old having to pee..lol...i got AAA but they dont carry around porta pottys lolz
I've seen things like this happen when the oil is low.
My old RAM 1500 used to stall sometimes when I slowed down or turned a corner. Turned out I was almost 2 quarts low. Since you just had your oil changed, just to be safe pull your dipstick and make sure it looks ok. It isn't stalling because of the lack of oil in those cases, there's just a sensor to see the oil is too low and cuts off the ignition so you're not driving around on it and then end up having a spun bearing.

I had an 04 Malibu that died while backing down my driveway onto the street. Turned out to be a corroded electrical connection at the fuel pump plug. I'm guessing the slight change in angle between the driveway and the street was enough to break the connection.
