With winter approaching I'm looking for snow tires for my Pat. In the back of my garage I discovered a set of Winter 216/65R16's. Can I swap out my All Season 205/70R16's for the 216/65R16's? They aren't that different in size.

205/70R16 = 27.3" in diameter & 8.1" section width
216/65R16 = 27.1" in diameter & 8.5" section width

That gives a difference of 1.1% on the speedometer, so no big deal here. I say go for it, especially if you already have the tires!

I'd agree. If you are really into snow tires, sets of steel rims are reasonably priced in the outpost. By the time you pay for mounting and dismounting, a second set of rims looks like a good deal.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I plan to put the winter tires on an extra set of 16" steel Jeep Liberty rims that I have but they don't have the TPM sensors. Can I have the dealership turn off the TPM sensing? I don't want to have to listen to the damn "tire lo" alarm all winter.

I hope the Liberty rims will fit. The dealer cannot shut off the TPMS warning but you will only get a chime on start/up and not after that. I have EVIC and put a piece of black tape on the dash to cover the yellow warning indicator.

When my TPMS warning light was on I couldn't dim the dash lights at night. Blinding. :(

I've spoken to my dealership and they said that the 216's should fit but that the TPM warning couldn't be turned off. I'll have them mount the winter tires on the stock rims. I'm not trusting just any garage with my TPM's.
