Hello all,

I’ve only just discovered this forum although I’ve been a patriot owner (2.0 CRD Limited) for since end of last year. Absolute blast of a car and love it to bits, however, over the last 4 weeks I’ve been experiencing an intermittent problem with the turbo failing. It nearly always happens when travelling at high speeds 70/80mph which in my case has been on motorways. Once it happens I pull into the slow lane as it’s difficult to get the car above 60 mph and limp home. Normally the following day the car is fine.

I’ve taken the car to our local dealer twice, who, unsurprisingly was unable to replicate the problem. The response so far has been tightened anything that was loose and “reflashed” the ECU (I’ve no idea what that means!) – neither of which have fixed the issue.

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?

Kind regards,
D

Since the Diesel is a VW design, I did a search on TDI power loss and came up with a few hits. One suggested that if you pull over, shut off the engine and restart and it's fine then it's more then likely the boost sensor.
try the boost pressure sensor mounted in the inlet pipe ,this will cause loss of boost and reset when the ignition is switched off again...
I also found this TDI Faq page: http://www.tdiclub.com/TDIFAQ/TDiFAQ-8.html#e

Hope one of them helps!

The engine gets hot enough, even in cold weather.

I'm not too well-versed on turbo engines, but i wonder if the boost controller is freaking out.

Have you checked the oil level? If the turbo is starving for oil, it might be overheating.

BOV/Bypass valve getting stuck, maybe? Bad (broken) vacuum line to the BOV or the wastegate?

So many things it could be...
