So I picked up my tires and wheels in the States today which I bought from tirerack and Jegs respectively.

I then proceeded to Mr Tire to have them fitted and after almost 1.5hrs I get back to my riot and still see the stock rim/tire and naturally ask what's going on. Apparently Mr Tire will not fit the wheels since it is not manufacturer recommended in the guide books they have access to. Also the fact that I could sue them if something happens and it is due to them fitting these non manufacturer recommended :blah:

I paid for the mounting and balancing and set off to go fit my new wheels myself. Here is the result:

I am very happy...

looks great!! what a big difference! As far as Mr. Tire, what a bunch of wusses, they obviously don't want your money...

That's nice, looking good. However, your experience with Mr. Tire does not speak for all of us... TireRack shipped Pirelli Scorpion 235/60R18's (29.4") to Mr Tire. I dropped of my new wheels before work and later in the afternoon (not purchasing through them puts you on a "space availabiliy" appointment day) Mr Tire warned me of the rubbing at full turn and asked if I had wheel spacers, which I previously decided to wait until they were on and if they rubbed...wheel spacers are on now. They "advised" me about the inner rubbing but said othing of the tire being out of speck dettering any service and we agreed that for regular driving there would be no problem but it would rub if I made a U-turn/tight turns in parking lots...at under 5mph for several feet where's the harm? No rubbing now.

Now springs- Mr Tire said they won't install any non-OEM sping... Enjoy your beefy kicks!

Thanks all...and yeah the Mr Tire guy was pretty cool and said unfortunately he does not make the rules...although he persisted in reading from the tire guide about how 215/60/17 was the biggest I could go (they at least did the mount and balance before they noticed the "risk")

tires: 103/tire plus shipping
wheels: 61.99/wheel + 13.99 per cap

On another note - I was going to go for the bfg at/ko which tireteam is clearing out for 105/tire but it would not have shipped in time. Reason for clearance price: I contacted BFG and they said the only difference in the clearance tire and the new one was that it now had European approval stamped on it...so anyone looking for this tire you can save yourself around 60-80 per tire if you move fast. It is only the 235/70/16 on special:http://www.tireteam.com/item_detail?sku=2357016BFG58530

About the same as I am going to pay. The only problem is that the 235 are not rated for severe snow and ice. the 225 is for whatever reason so I am going with the 225.
The Grabber is an excellent tire. I have them on Wifey's Wrangler and even after 2 winters they're like velcro in deep snow. Thanks 'silver and black' for mentioning that the 225s are rated for severe snow & ice. I would have bought them for my Patriot but I was looking at the 235s. Instead I got General Altimax Arctics which are quite capable themselves.

It has impacted both but I was expecting it although the performance seemed to take quite a hit when I travelled back home with family and the 4 original tires loaded in the back. On the freeway going up gradual inclines saw the speedo dip quite a bit with me having to gear down at times to get her back up to 60-65mph.

For consumption when I went to the States to pick up the tires I started at 10.9l/100km and ended up at 10.2l/100km and on the journey home it stayed at 11.3 for the entire trip and I was keeping a steady 105-110km/h. I will be filling up tonight and also had the alignment done today so will monitor consumption.

Going through some of the radar equipped school zones I see I am about 2-3mph out on the speedo.

I would say my choice had quite a bit of influence from Project Abyss :D

FDI manual transmission

No problems thus far with the springs - it is driving really well and the extra height combined from springs and tires is awesome - especially love how much higher I sit. I park next to an 09 trail rated FDII everyday at work so I can clearly see the difference now.

I have not had the chance to hit a real trail yet so still need to stress test them a bit I suppose.

To do's:

oil cooler - on order
either exhaust or CAI to try and regain some performance I lost...
mopar roof basket type lights if I can find them and for a good price

are you talking about the Grabbers or BFG - if Grabbers, Tirerack shows the 245 is not but does not say that for the 235

Hey Cobretty,

Did you put on spacers?

No spacers added and I have not felt any rub - that being said I don't think I have had it at full lock - Mr tire claimed when they fitted one they saw there would be rub.

It definitely look awesome. I do plan to keep my 17" alloy. I loved them. The problem is I don't drive enough to justified buying new tires any time soon. I keep looking though.

I think Stu's coils will coming first

BTW Cobretty, the SR-A's look tiny with the lift and compare to the Grabber.

Thanks full house.

Plumonium yeah I did not mention it but when I had to remove the rear tires and fit the Grabbers the jack could not lift the rear end high enough so I had to discretely use the motels' yellow pages for the extra lift:D

I can't see myself carrying a high-lift every day so I need to get a new jack for it - did anyone else come across this who has a lift and larger tires?

Riddle me this... anyone

My Riot 07 just started this new thing, the transaxle fluid will overheat and a little light will come on. Now after going about 80 mph the jeep will slow to about 20mph until it cools. The shop says that nothing they can do other than add a new coolant tank!!!

Anyone out there with this too? Mine has about 80k
