I just purchased a 2009 Patriot north edition. I recently found a flip switch near the hood release and I can'r figure out what it's for. I can't find it in the manual and it doesn't have fog lights so I have a clue. Any ideas?

Picture, please...

Oh, BTW, did you buy this new (are you the first owner)? If not, did you buy it from a dealer? Stock fog light switch is on the headlight switch (pull out). That spot is where my girlfriend's dad would put his odometer kill-switch - I know, dumb, right.

Could be a sump pump if yours has had the leak problems.:D

Seriously, I've got an 08 and mine has no such switch. I'd guess its an aftermarket install. If this was purchased used, look for accessories. Maybe an anti-theft kill switch? Or an underhood light switch?

Thats the Voice Activated Auto Pilot. Just start your Patriot, turn the switch to the on position, and tell it where you want to go. If thats not what it is then I have no idea what it does. But give it a try and see where it takes you.

Robi, I damn nearly wet my pants laughing :smiley_thumbs_up:

But come to think of it ... it could also be the nitro power booster that some hot rods use. Flip the switch, floor the gas and measure your 0-60 time. If it`s under 3 seconds, you smell burnt rubber and see white/blue smoke behind you ... it could be it :pepper:

DON'T TOUCH IT!!!! it turns off the rollover prevention system, IT WILL INSTANTLY FLIP YOUR JEEP OVER IF YOU TOUCH IT!!!

A Patriot North? Maybe it's something to do with the block heater, or possibly the battery heater. Is there a blanket looking thing around the battery? If you bought it used, it could be any number of things. An electrical cut-off of some sort to keep something from draining the battery. A GPS tracker to keep tabs on an unfathful spouse. Some kind of backyard rigged burgler alarm. A bleach pump for doing burnouts....

LOL thanks guys, I knew I joined the right group. It is pre-owned but only 12,000 kms on it and I'm pretty sure there was nothing aftermarket on it. I'll try to get some pics up soon. Thanks for the replies, both serious and otherwise. To be honest I hope it does some of your suggestions, except for the spouse gps thing, that could get ugly.

I guess the easiest way to find out about the switch would be to contact the guy who sold it to you and just ask him. Or the dealer (if it was through him) to contact the person who traded it in and ask him on your behalf. Could take only a few minutes on the phone ... and your mystery will be solved ;)
