When my wife got her pat in 08 one of the first things we did was change the tires on it. We went with 215/70/16 General grabber AT2 because of the price wow was that a a bad decision. We have about 33 k on them and one of them looks like a drag slick, and the rest are not far behind!!WE rotated every 3k and have had 2 alignments so far on the jeep we do it every spring.I wish we had spent the extra money on the BFG AT that I am going to buy now, I know that those tires will last because I had 80 k on the MT's I had on my f250. So I now have learned not to skimp on your tires it will cost you twice as much in the long run.And just because it looks like a BFG AT doesn't mean it has the quality of one!!!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad:

I got a set of Dunlop A/T Radial Rovers on my Blazer. I've driven from Spokane to Omaha three times ontop of normal driving, on those tires and they have held thier tred ver well. i bought them from Sears about two years ago other then being dirty tred still looks good. But 5 tires cost me about $1100. Now those are 32 inch tires on 15 inch rims so they might be cheaper to put on a Patriot. Here are some pics.

maineiac,

Michelin LTX M/S is an awesome all around tire that's great on snow, mud and gravel roads. Not sure about sizing for us though, I haven't looked into it.

I've had LTX M/S on my Jimmy and my Vanagon. They're pricey, but worth it.

sorry to hear

About your experience with the grabbers.
I have the grabbers at2's on a liberty and they've been great. Love then . Would definetly get them again.
About 20k miles on them and minimal wear.
Currently have bridgestone dueller at revos on the pat. Too soon to tell on wear, but also great tires. Not as aggressive as the grabbers, yet most aggressive I have found for 17" on the pat.
Bit pricey at $175 each

Yokohama Geolander A/T-s will fit factory 17" but I dunno if they make any that will fit 16"

I've got General AT2s on Wifey's Wranger. They've got good snow traction, wa-a-ay better than Goodyear Wrangler RTs that came on it. Got 'em January '07 so they're in their 3rd winter and they are starting to show wear, but the traction is still there. I would have put them on my FWD Patriot but they lack the snowflake so I went with General Altimax Arctics. Great on ice and good enough in snow. Really haven't put them to the test yet, however. That said, I love Michelin overall and I still wonder why I didn't go there; I guess because I liked the General ATs so much.

Always a compromise in tires, like most things. Softer rubber, better traction, more wear. Longer life, harder rubber, less traction. Etc.

Great to have the discussion here though, we can learn from other folks.
