I like HID kits, but I like the ones with the lenses. Is the kit you put on DOT legal? My understanding of how HIDs worked is that it's beam is focused through those projector type lens to reduce blinding oncoming traffic. I would think in a reflective setup it would be too much?

No offense to anyone, but I HATE xenon lights - they`re too bright, too cold and a aggresive in your eyes compared to classic halogens. And I TRIPLE HATE anyone installing pseudo xenon, high brightness, blueish color bulbs ... or whatever similar sh*t in their vehicles that is not tested and approved by competent authorities to be used in that particular car. These mods are not just an innocent tuning thing but it`s outright dangerous ... they can blind oncomming drivers and cause seroius accidents.

Howgh

I like em, and would like my lights a bit brighter, but not sure I want to go that route. Just a bit pricey for me, so just looking for a small upgrade in light once mine burn out.

Then try the Sylvania Silverstars... they are H13's (PnP fit), are slightly brighter and whiter, are halogen (no comp issues), MUCH cheaper than HID's, legal, and they last longer than HID's.

Philips also has some highly recommended halogen bulbs that are supposedly better than Silverstars but l but can't remember the model name right now and I cant get them here in PR and Amazon cant ship them either.

I like the HID's (6,000K) but won't spend the money right now so I went with these and they did the job for me. I will probably look at modding the reverse lights to Silverstars as well. A user posted a how-to here in the forums.

i like them but 8000 is far to bright... theyre nice and all but the people that put on the high wattage are not helping at all your blinding everyone else highest ill go is 6000k
The "k" numbers have to do with actual color and not actual brightness as hard as it may be to believe. I even feel they are brighter but the experts all say thats not the case. 5000-5500K is close to Siverstars (for example). Standard halogens are in the 3500-4500k range. The "white" lights are in the 6000K range. 7000K and above go into the blues, greens, purples and even pinks. Yellow is in the low 3000's i believe.

Real HIDs last longer than halogens.

Standard H13 color temp is on the order of about 3100k. Sliverstar Ultra are about 4100k. The only thing missing from this chart is the bulb life:

OEM HIDs are in the 4600-5500k range.

Those silverstars are GREAT, I have them in mine. Very helpful since I do half of my driving at night/darkness. The life on those are approx 150 hours i believe which seems quite short, infact I think that's a ton shorter then the standard bulbs...

Not really.. Silverstars are 44 dollars a set... DDM tuning sells the whole HID Kid for 25 bux. I can't find ultras at any store near me and HID don't burn out as quick. 2 years of silverstars (since they burn out like every year for me) is like a your headlights, fogs, wiring harnesses and error code eliminators(if needed) and silverstars still aren't as bright.

HID kits for $25???? I'd be very careful. The full kits come with ballasts and such and are well over $100 a kit for the good one's. Are you maybe looking at the bulbs only? If so, I have read that these are not the best of options and that's why I opted for the full kits instead of the simple bulb replacements.

Last set I had was in my Ford Taurus and those replaced a $75 kit which lasted me less than a month due to the cheap quality of the ballasts. I then went with a more expensive (and better quality) that worked from day one with no issues. Lasted me close to 6 months before I traded in the Taurus for the Patriot.

EDIT: I took a look at the site... You are right and I apologize. I am still a bit "dubious" though. Do you have them and if so, are they working? I did find a site with the computer warning cancellation (CANBUS - for BMW, Audi, MB, etc.) module at $19.95. Between the two, you can probably get past the computer issue completely and for close to the price of the Silverstars.

not sure where you guys are, but if you plan on converting to HID headlights, you won't pass inspection, and you'll be ticketed (depending on state) and you will really piss off other drivers for not having a proper setup, you just can't put a HID light in a reflective halogen housing, you'll have a scattered beam and blind everyone.

i have 4300k....most light output. mine need the relay for the the canbus. my lights will shut off for a sec every now and then.....but they rock!

Vultite... I am in Puerto Rico where there is no real regulation other than to light up the road ahead of yourself. I am considering on-coming traffic though and I would make it a point to insure that the HID's would be pointed away from the on-coming drivers vision. Afterall, it's the road I want to light up! I presently use the Silverstars (too bad the H13's aren't available in the ULTRA line though) and would probably wait until they start to burn out which will be a long time yet.

kojack... THAT is what I am most concerned about... the lights shutting off like that from time to time. That's why I ditched the first HID set I bought (cheap) and bought a more expensive/reliable set.

It has nothing to do with the HID kit. it has to do with the can bus system. I just have to pickup a little plug in module and its fixed.

You need a relay they souldnt cost to much all you do is wire it to you lights and to the battery.

You also need a relay bro

Can you explain exaclty how this relay ties into the Kit?? Maybe the diagram or something?? I understand you need to tie into the cars battery but I'm lost from there...

^^^ What he said.

i just put 6000k for my headlights and 3000k for my foglights. looks wicked. whole roads lit up very nicely. i didnt connect the high beams, because i have the mopar off road lights. and the low beam HID's lite up the whole road anyway. i needed a harness for each light set. took me 3 hrs to install since it was my first time ever and my brother just kept getting in the way ahahaha. will put up a pic soon
