So a while ago I installed some fog lights and the wires that came with it were not long enough to reach the passenger compartment so I just taped them up and left them in the engine bay. Since the weather has warmed up a bit I decided to finish what I started and run the wires (via some extra lengths of wire) to a switch I have already set up inside the Jeep. I ran into a problem though. I cannot find anywhere to fish the wires through and I do not feel comfortable just drilling and hoping it close to where I can reach.

Has anyone wired anything from the engine bay to inside the car? Is there a spot to fish wires through or a safe area to drill? I noticed the clutch cable areas but from inside the car it does not seem accessible. I have the center console pulled out and now I am thinking I'll have to pull the dash too!

HELP!

There is a way to get wires into the cabin from the engine. Just take off the fender liner on the drivers side and you will see all the factory wires that run inside. Just follow them and you'll see a rubber grommet that you can poke through for a new wire. Its pretty simple and I think you should be able to do it without taking off a wheel.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, good to know! :smiley_thumbs_up:

Thanks! I'll try it tomorrow if it is warm enough. I'll take pics too!

here's where I went, but if I knew about the wheel well grommet, I would have tried that first. My location you have to push the wires through foam insulation that's in the door pillar, and snake it up and then back down into the dash (the inside plastic has to come off the pillar)

On my 2007 Patriot I ran the light wires through the rubber grommet in the firewall. I drilled a hole to the left of the gas pedal installed a grommet and ran the wires throught the hole I drilled, then sealed so it would be waterproof. Beautiful photos, Heckler.

On my 2007 Patriot I ran the light wires through the rubber grommet in the firewall, they come out under the dash. If you are worried about water coming through the grommet, just put some sealer around it after you run the wires. I don't know why in the H you would want to tear everything apart when you don't have to. Its called work smarter not harder its a no brainer in my opinion. Check it out, unless there isn't a grommet on the 2010 but its probably the same as the 2007., the wires come thru under the steering wheel. Open the Hood and look at the firewall, its right there, you can't miss it, so simple, a blind man could find it. Beautiful Photos Heckler, I wish I could get my photos to come out that good. I'm working on them.
Well I did just notice that grommet in Heckler's pic, however mine does not have that. if it did I would have noticed it. I will look again tomorrow, but I think there some kind of fabic-like cardboard type of material there.

When I was looking for a spot, I removed the air inlet and air filter box, but I did not see anything worth attempting.

Let me correct myself, I was thinking of something else. I just went out and checked. I drilled a hole in the lower firewall to the left of the gas pedal, installed a grommet and ran the wires through there then sealed it. My apologies The one in Hecklers photo, I used for some Mirror turn signal wires. Speaking of Blindman and No-Brainer, I can't remember til I went out and checked that the grommet I was talking about was the one I installed. DUUUUHHHH. I think I am losing my memory at the age of 53 years. Starting to forget things.

Yup.

One possible location is on the right side of the vehicle, quite high in the engine bay. Remove your glove box. (Open it, empty it, squeeze the end together and pull down. It'll probably be stiff - mine sure was - but it will move eventually.) Behind it you will see the grommet where the hose for the rear window washer comes in from the engine bay. See if you can't get your wire(/s) to go through there.

I figured the glove box might be the way to go. I figured since the cabin air filter there, there must somewhere to access the outside there as well. I had a horrible migraine all day, so it will have to be tomorrow before I can try of the suggestions out.

I did the same
Drilled and siliconed the hole
Hasnt been a problem

I looked every possible place but could not find an easy way. After reading this post, decided to try the grommet behind the wheel well. Removed the plastic liner (it was not easy, the plastic pin holders were difficult to remove and I had to drill the one on top out). The grommet is on the side wall towards the cabin. I drilled a hole with a drill bit by hand, pushed through a wire, found it inside and used it to pull the wires through the hole. Unfortunately I don't have photos but installation was as clean at the end as it can be.
