had my sunroof drain holes cleaned out and the sunroof re-aligned and never had a leak since! :)

I wonder if this is something you can trace back to a certain range of dates of manufacture. Mine was built 03/09, I have the sunroof, and haven't had any leaks. We get some FEROCIOUS thunderstorms here, too.

Its poor fitting parts. The 5th time I took mine in the water was leaking past the seal on the glass. The drains were catching it and had no leak through dome lights. The dealer told me that it is supposed to leak a little thats what the drains are for. Well I did not spend 23 grand for a vehicle that is supposed to leak.
sorry for the poor video, but I realized I do not video well when pissed off.

Yep thats what mine does. Leak specialist said thats ok. As long as the drains are working properly should not be a problem. As I said I did not spend 23 grand for a vehicle that is supposed to leak a little.
I am using lemon law. I have talked to a lawyer and the dealership today. I am just crossing my fingers for stuff to move quick.

I've had mine in multiple times for leaks in all three domes and my A Pillars. I have had the sunroof drains replaced multiple times (for clogs), had the sunroof and seals replaced, and even had my roof rack area totally rewelded. Problem was "solved" until a week or so ago.

I found water in my spare tire well. I could see the water path from under my hatch window, running down the trim and down to the tire well. Deaership diagnosed that the third brake light seal was bad and they replaced the seal and housing. Also replaced the tire mat, because it was soaked.

A few days and another hard rain later, I found water leaking out of the shoulder seatbelt hole in the rear pillar. There was another water trail leading down the trim and into the tire well. Furious, I drove straight to the dealership without an appointment and left my Patriot there, requested a printout of my history of visits and told them that I don't want it back until it is sealed up tight. I also told them that I had wanted this vehicle since I found out that it was a mere thought in Jeep's mind, back in 2003...it has been the only vehicle that I have wanted since, but now I'm just disgusted with it and will seriously consider lemoning it.

I called the dealership later in the day and spoke to the new service manager. He has been with the company for 10 years, and at this dealership for 2 months. He actually knows the technician that was flown out from the plant over a year ago to look at my Patriot. He saw that my Patriot has been in multiple times for leak issues and water tested it himself. This time, it was found that the rear drain tubes had come undone. Apparently, this is a common issue. He told me that Chrysler is acknowledging that there is a leak issue with Patriots, and he has seen quite a few of them himself. Apparently, a common error when testing for leaks with the sunroofs is not running the water long enough. Most technicians don't wait long enough for the drain tray to fill up and show where the leak is.

Hubby doesn't want me to lemon my Patriot, because we have the lifetime powertrain warranty. We've also got the 7 year extended waranty, because I went into the dealership and very firmly verbally disciplined them for not applying my purchased service package correctly when I brought my Patriot in for servicing (oil changes/tire rotations.) It is amazing what you can accomplish with the knowledge that there is someone in the next room waiting to sign papers on the vehicle that they just decide to buy....if you slowly raise your voice, things start happening. :)

I just don't know what to do now. I love my Patriot. It is just right for me and Hubby and our dogs. I love the MPGs, and know that I won't find another SUV that will fit us as perfectly as the Patriot has. And we certainly won't get another lifetime powertrain warranty anywhere else. It is just this d*mn*d leak issue that is making me so disgusted! While I am relieved that my vehicle is mechanically sound, I am constantly nervous about the leak. What if we move back to the deep south one day..where it rains hard almost every day?

Just saw water coming out my A-Pillars in the auto wash the other day... It was only a few drops, but yeah, this is a bit ridiculous. My little brother was in the Jeep when it happened... I got made fun of pretty bad, "What kind of POS leaks through the A-Pillar?" :-(

I feel for you. I loved the patriot when I bought it too. Since then with the leak problems, getting screwed on the financing and not happy even with the lemon settlement its time to dump it and get something else. I have been shopping for a used grand cherokee. Won't be as good on gas as the patriot but its got more room and I won't have to finance it.

Well, after getting the rubber sealant around the glass fixed, everything seems tobe at least quite dry. Even a trip through the carwash didn't leave any big trails of water inside. The backrim of the roof felt a little bit wet, but no actual waterdrops or so.

Well, it might not be the end of the story, but it leaves us a little more hopeful for now.

Happy (DRY) New Year 2010!

I have a 2008 with no sunroof... I live in Florida where there is a fair mixture of dry spells, drizzling, and storms. Jamie and I have kept a close watch on our Riot but have not noticed any leaks nor were there any in the vehicle report and history from the dealership. Are we just lucky or is there a chance that leaking will be a reality at some point? We're at the 30k mark and still not a drop...

I got a call back from my dealership's service manager yesterday. He has made some calls and wanted to let me know that the sunroof drains coming undone seems to be a common issue. Apparently, Chysler has found that if you load up the back of your vehicle to the roof and the headliner gets bumped and jostled, you have a higher likelihood of having this happen. (I've got two large dogs that I sometimes haul around...their heads and shoulders most likely bump the headliner quite a bit.)

He assured me that the dealership has repaired the drain lines, and did a better job than the factory did of sealing them up. I still see this as a major design flaw. If Chrysler *knows* that this is an issue, why not redesign them and replace the existing ones?

So now I've got a vehicle that I don't feel comfortable putting anything on the roof rack of (due to having to have all of those seams rewelded to cure my rear dome leak), and now I don't feel comfortable hauling my dogs because they may cause my drain lines to come undone again. When I expressed this concern to the manager, he seemed to think that everything should be OK because the repairs have made my Jeep "better than when it came out of the factory." Hubby told me the same thing.

Sadly, I just don't feel confident in my little Jeep anymore. Disappointing, because this was my "dream vehicle" for so many years, and I was soooo excited to finally bring one home. It rained again last night...I'm off to go look for water intrusion.

No leak... so far

Hi,

Proud owner of a 2010 north edition Pat (no sunroof) with 2250 Km... I just went through two days of hard rain/icy rain and also went to the car wash two times and so far no leaks. I checked all the usual spot for a leak and nothing.

I hope it will stay that way...

Thank you,

well, 4 days later and I had my first offer for the buy back of the vehicle. Not good enough for me. I will be waiting to hear the second round of offers.
They most likely will offer you a settlement. I got 4 grand. They offered to buy mine back but because the dealership screwed me on the financing I would have owed chrysler money if they bought it back. So I took the money. Kind of regret it though because now I'm stuck with a piece of junk and have not been able to get rid of it.

We have had both a 2007 and a 2010 and have never had a problem.
We only had the 07 for a year and hopefully they have corrected any leaking issues for the 10's.... but we have never had a sunroof either....
Good luck to everyone out there
