Recently in another thread regarding 5 speed transmission whine I posted the service history and repair costs for the 5 speed manual transmission in my 2012 Limited 4X4.

My first rebuild was done at 117,000 km (73,000 miles) and this week I just had a second rebuild completed at 127,000 km (79,000 miles).

The transmission had not been serviced or had fluid changed prior to the first rebuild at 117,000 km, but the transmission shop did not believe this was the cause of any issues.

Without any obvious mechanical failures or indicators of what originally caused the problems, the shop’s diagnosis was low quality parts from Chrysler.

I would be interested to hear from anyone else who has had their 5 speed transmission rebuilt, what your mileage was at the time it was done, and if you have had any issues since.

I would very much like to continue driving this vehicle, but have lost confidence in the transmission, and I’m really not interested in making any more repairs to the drivetrain.

Any experiences or insight regarding the Patriot’s 5 speed would be much appreciated.

These cars are very common where I live PNW. No shops in my area will rebuild my transmission. They say too many known issues and crappy parts from Chrysler. Also new tranny's are on backorder and not being produced very quickly. I've been waiting 3 months so far.

My 2014 Patriot has the 5-spd manual and it's at 185,000 miles and no real problems. It does get a little whiny after a long drive. God forbid I need a repair, I've got two reputable Jeep dealers within 30 miles.

Several years ago the CVT in my 2008 Patriot was replaced under warranty. It took about a week and that included a delay in shipping because of a snowstorm.

Yeah, I regret not getting the cvt now. Apparently the t355 manual 5 speeds are failing left and right. I replaced the input shaft bearing about 20k miles ago and the output shaft bearing went out so I replaced it, but it was too late, the other end of the shaft that sets on the inaccessible end of the case is wallered out and not spinning true. Yeah, it's noisy alright. 168k miles and it's toast. Never towed anything with it and mostly driven with only myself (185 lbs) in the driver's seat so it hasn't been put through any sort of stress test. They told me $5k for a new transmission if they can get one but they're on backorder from Chrysler. I've been on the wait list 3 months and no call back. Clutch went out at 160k miles and I just replaced it too. I've got brand new tires on. Yesterday I finally made the tough choice to list on craigslist. I'm hoping to get $3700 for it with the transmission issue. It still moves under its own power at least I didn't keep driving it until it locked up. Someone with a garage can do the work themself. If I had the time and space I'd try to diy it but unfortunately I don't.

My transmission shop said the exact same thing. I asked if the damage was from driving it too hard or too much four wheel drifting in the snow, but they said it’s just low quality parts from Chrysler, and they still rebuilt it for me.

I also had the option to replace the clutch (with no way to know what condition it was in, because it’s a sealed unit) but declined to save myself an additional $600.

Now three years and 15,000km later (9,300 miles) occasionally the rattle noise comes back. It goes away with the clutch is pressed in, so must be the input or outut shat bearing again...
