Okay so this morning my 2012 Patriot wouldn't turn over, so I put the trickle on & started rite up. Off I went. An hour later same thing, wouldn't turn over. Jumping didn't work from another car, but AAA got it going.
THEN close to home coming off the freeway it dies. Completely. No hazard lights. It was so scary. Cops came and jumped me AGAIN. It had no power. I floored it at 19mph. It died as I pulled in my driveway.
Battery says 12.5 juice. Not even a tick noise with key in, zero lights works even back hatch won't unlock.
Someone mentioned "limp mode"? What is that and aren't hazard lights supposed to work in any condition???

Get the battery and altatror load tested at a parts store.
I replaced my 2 year old alternator w/o testing. My 11 month old battery had failed.

Pull the battery a have someone drive you to the store for testing if it won't get there under its own power.

My issue was was not fun to resolve.

Bad battery cable? I had a Chevy that would quit at the most inopportune times. No lights, no spark, no nothin'. If I jiggled the cables voila! New cables solved the problem.
 
If you have a multimeter, and can get the engine started with the engine running put the test leads across the battery terminals. You should see 13.5~14.8v. If it is the same voltage or slightly lower than the battery then the charging system needs to be checked. Also if you haven't already check, and clean the battery terminals, and posts. Over time oxidation will build up between the post, and terminal leading to charging issues, and dead batteries.

Is it weird that it completely shut down while driving though? I've never had this happen.
The 12.5 is not an absolute indicator that the battery is good. The cranking amps are critical and will drop due to corrosion in the battery cells. Good voltage still requires the "muscle" from the amps to make the electrical system stable. I would have the battery load tested. That will tell you the battery status for sure
