i have a few questions.
my 2008 jeep patriot overheats alot.
i got the thermostat replaced because they said it wouldnt open.
but i heard that the best recommendation is an aftermarket transmission or radiator cooler.

i was wondering if anyone could recommend a particular brand?
and let me know if i should get a radiator cooler AND A transmission cooler?

i also heard that switching to another fluid could help. and i was wondering if anyone had experience with it? and if what theyre mentioning is transmission fluid...

my main goal is to be able to speed and it not die.
like about 85 or 90.

if anyone did anything to make that possible thatd be great.

also..
my cruise control wont engage but the light comes on and says its on. does anyone know why?
thanx guys.

tl;dr:
looking for an aftermarket transmisson cooler and looking for recommendations.

and wondering if a radiator cooler would also help it not overheat.

im wondering if speeding in texas will ever be possible in this vehicle.

the pic shows a guy on youtube recommending amsoil synthetic cvt fluid.
he says he hasnt had the problem since then. i was wondering if anyone else also switched fluids and it fixed the problem.
my car has almost 150k miles on it. and i bought it last month.
nice car besides the darn overheating.

Are you sure its your transmission that's overheating? If the temp gauge on your dash is running high, its your engine not your transmission. Patriots have not one but two thermostats.

Now if it is your transmission, it could just be that the present fluid is worn out. The recommended service interval in the owner's manual is OTL. Tranny fluid should be changed about twice as often, i.e., around 50-60,000 miles. Another member on our site (RossoRacer) uses Amsoil CVT fluid. With Racer in his name, he must be capable of speeding!

I'll let others discuss a tranny cooler. I don't have one and at my latitude a cooler probably isn't necessary -- we might get over 90F a few days a year, and I really don't drive over the posted limit (70mph) anyway. (Remember, you're driving a Jeep, not a Porsche).

Yeah, it's hard to tell from the pic, but it looks like your temp gauge is just left of center, meaning the engine temp is fine, and I'm pretty sure that's the transmission temp light. Does it look like a thermometer with three lines flagging to the right, all inside of a gear?

Definitely change the transmission fluid and the filters. If you can hold out a few more days, Friday I'll be posting a write up on replacing the transmission filter with a spin on filter that doesn't require taking half your Jeep apart to access.

Omg this just happened to me on Saturday I have K&N intake and all was good until I started to hear a whine at first I was wtf do I have a turbo on this jeep then I was like uh that noise isn’t right then the temp gauge came on granted the temperature outside was over 85 degrees had the A/C full blast and also I was speeding at over 80mph. Looks like there was to much stress and heat on the engine and transmission, had to pullover for like 25 min for the trans to cool off then it was good to go so just drove to speed limit. Granted it had 77k miles and this has been the only issue with my Jeep bought it back in 2014. I’ve seen ppl say they had this issue when they bearly get it out of the dealership so I can’t complain cuz I drive the **** of my Jeep more like a speed car, lol.
