Finally! Thank you guys for your help. FDII rear spring next to the FDI Limited one. New rear springs did lift my Jeep 3/4" when empty, but back to level full of windsurfing stuff:D. The ride feel better and more stable when turning.

FINALLY we can put this debate to bed !!

Great work here FirstJeep !

APT, what do you think? We finally can see the difference. 3/4" springs and 1/4" tires. (or perhaps it is still 1/2" and 1/2" once everything is installed and levelled.

3/4" uncompressed is a little less uncompressed, but some from tires and some from springs. Interesting that part number is listed in the parts manual for both Compass and Patriot. Anyway, this issue...

:banana::hammertime::itchy-scratchy:

Thank god. As this debate raged, I couldn't help but think that Jeep wouldn't outright lie by saying the springs were taller. Sooner or later someone would have called that out.

So now FDI owners can do the RRO lift in conjunction with some FDII springs and get max lift!

Knowledge Base!

Can we add this thread or at least the post with the image to the knowledge base so we never have to have this discussion again?

Fat chance this won't come up again.:icon_rolleyes:

The manual lists 7 different part numbers for the front spring, depending on the engine/trans package. I couldn't decipher which is which.
05105863AC sequentially through 05105869AC

I'm interested in this also. I'm going to see what I can learn from Dixiedawg who has a 2008 FDII. I'll post back what I learn. It may take a few days.

Well, the 2011 FDI and FDII seem to be the same height, so can't you folks just check the part numbers for the 2011 models? And order those springs?
I did attempt this, but I don't think the 2011 part numbers are really out yet. Most of the springs (and there are several different ones) say 2009-2011 or 2010-2011. The problem is, they don't specify (in the parts manual) if they are for a 4x2, a FDI or a FDII...it's simply a part number or spring code (zcf, zrf for example). The spring codes are found on the vehicle build sheets, but you have to send your VIN to Jeep to get a build sheet for your vehicle.

If someone with a 2011 FDII and/or FDI could send away for their build sheets, then we'd have the spring codes, and could then get the part numbers.

I remember when I had my Patriot, that the part numbers were hanging on a tag off each of the springs, so someone could check those.

Here is what I have so far. The spring part numbers below are from the spring identification tabs on my 2008 FDI, and on 2008 FDII, 2011 FWD, 2011 FDI, 2011 FDII, and 2012 FDII. The spring numbers have a format of digits and letters like "05105893AD". The next post has pictures of the location of the spring identification tags.

My "clearance" measurement points are accessable, hard spots on the underbody front and rear on both sides, four measurements per vehicle. I didn't try to get the lowest points front and rear. The rear point is the bottom rear of the frame rail which comes to a stop in front of the rear axle. The rear axle is to the left in the picture.

Image

The front point is the bottom edge of a bolt which goes vertically up through the front crossmember behind the front axle. The front axle is to the right in the picture.

My "clearance" measurments are only useful for comparing the ride heights of vehicles measured at those specific points. But they can be used to compare differences in ride heights between vehicles measured similarly. I averaged the side to side figures. There was very little side to side variation. I don't have "clearance" figures from a 2008 or 2011 FDII yet. I will see if I can talk someone into providing them. We also could also use spring numbers for a 2008 FDII.

2008 -- FDI 5MT -- 1J8FF28W98D654120 -- 27.3 inch tall Goodyear 205/70R16 tires
Both Front Springs -- 05105865AD -- Front "clearance" -- 8.5 inches
Both Rear Springs -- 05105893AD -- Rear "Clearance" -- 8.0 inches

2008 -- FDII CVT -- xxxxxxxxx -- 28.0 inch tall Goodyear 215/65R17 tires
Front Spring -- ???????????? -- Front "clearance" -- ?.? inches
Rear Spring -- 05105982AC? -- Rear "Clearance" -- ?.? inches

2011 -- FWD CVT -- xxxxxxxxx -- 27.3 inch tall Goodyear 205/70R16 tires
Left Front Spring -- 05105869AD -- Front "clearance" -- 9.25 inches
Right Front Spring -- 05105867AD -- Front "clearance" -- 9.25 inches
Both Rear Springs -- 05105895AD -- Rear "Clearance" -- 9.25 inches

2011 -- FDI CVT -- 1J4NF4GB3BD131948 -- 27.2 inch tall Firestone 215/60R17 tires
Left Front Spring -- 05151899AB -- "Front clearance" -- 9.2 inches
Right Front Spring -- 05151898AB -- "Front clearance" -- 9.2 inches
Rear Spring -- 05168703AB -- "Rear Clearance" -- 9.2 inches

2011 -- FDII CVT -- xxxxxxxxx -- 28.0 inch tall Goodyear 215/65R17 tires
Left Front Spring -- 05151899AB -- "Front clearance" -- 9.87 inches
Right Front Spring -- 05151898AB -- "Front clearance" -- 9.87 inches
Both Rear Springs -- 05168173AA -- "Rear Clearance" -- 9.25 inches

2012 -- FDII CVT -- 1C4NJRFB5CD588460 -- 28.0 inch tall Goodyear 215/65R17 tires
Left Front Spring -- 05151900AB -- "Front clearance" -- ?.? inches
Right Front Spring -- 05155973AD -- "Front clearance" -- ?.? inches
Both Rear Springs -- 05168173AA -- "Rear Clearance" -- ?.? inches

Observations: The 2011 FWD and FDI "clearance" figures are better than my 2008 FDI. So it looks as though the 2011 FWD's and FDI's do have better real ground clearance than the 2008 models. Maybe better than all of the pre 2011 models except for the FDII models.

The 2011 FWD CVT and the 2011 FDI CVT have almost identical "clearance" figures, but different spring part numbers. I suspect that the reason is to provide a softer ride on the non-4X4 FWD vehicle.

The 2011 FWD, FDI, and FDII have different springs in the front on the left and right sides. The 2011 FDI and FDII have the same front springs. According to the Mopar parts counter, the 2011 FDI and FDII have the same front struts, but the left front and right front strut have different part numbers. Since the front springs and struts are different from side to side, maybe they are mirror images of each other or something.

The 2011 and 2012 FDII have different front spring numbers. The rear spring numbers are the same. I'll see if I can get clearance numbers from a 2012 FDII.

When I get more information, I will modify this post.

Spring Part Number Tag Locations

The spring part numbers generally have a format of digits and a couple of letters like this: "05105893AD". On the spring identification tag, the first few digits may be smaller in size than the remaining digits and letters.

The front spring identification tag is usually visible above the front tire where the spring disappears up into the fender.

Image

The rear spring identification tag is usually visible by looking at the rear spring from behind the rear tire.

I will go to my dealership this week and find some #'s for everyone. 2011 FDI is about 2inches higher than my 2007!!

Finally the weather gods allowed me daylight and no rain to take a peak at the spring tags on my 2011 FDII.

Front
Driver side 2505151899AB
passenger side 2505151898AB

Rear both sides were 05168173AA there might be a couple of #s at the curl of the tag such as the first 2 #s on the front (25) which would make it
2505168173AA but to verify this I need to take off a tire.
Hope this is what you were looking for.

If I search the full 25xxxx number, nothing shows up. But when I searched for 05151899AB (just dropped the 25 off the front), I found the 2010 Patriot Parts manual in PDF form!

It has both Front springs #'s listed too: 05151899AB and 05151898AB, seems odd they have two different fronts though. The rear part number doesn't show up though, so that may be a 2011 only.

Anyway, I found the file here: www.gmb.be/CJD_parts/CD5/Catalogs/06-09/10MK.pdf
And just in case that isn't working, I uploaded it to my own site as a mirror here: http://lovefestrocks.org/share/2010MKPartsManual.pdf

EDIT: Well, what an interesting site gmb.be is. Found the 2011 Parts Manual too. Here it is: www.gmb.be/CJD_parts/CD5/Catalogs/06-09/11MK.pdf
And again, I mirrored it here: http://lovefestrocks.org/share/2011MKPartsManual.pdf

Your welcome RHill, Ratcity is just an old nickname from the post WWII era of a locale in King County, just south of Seattle , WA. The name Ratcity has had many different meanings since the original including what one may imply from the name. Now White Center aka Ratcity is actually getting better with many small businesses that attract a better crowd of people which in turn helps push out the riff raff, but we are still unwanted by the city and the county.
