Hey all,

First time Jeep owner, first time SUV/Truck owner. I've always looked in forums for related vehicle issues and I wanted to be a part of the community finally. I just purchased my '16 Patriot Sport in Septmber and already have gone camping twice with it. I understand that it being a 2.4L CVT theres not much that can be done to increase the horsepower but I'd still like to increase it as much as possible. Not much has been done yet, but I have installed an Avital 5305 remote start and Alarm. I would like to upgrade the exhaust or air intake next. Any ideas or recommendations? Looking forward to meeting fellow Patriot owners! ?

what part of AZ are you in? is yours a 2wd or 4wd? and as far as increasing horse power, an exhaust and CAI will do... Nothing. the computer still controls how much air/fuel goes in, and unless you get a custom ECU or pay $XXXXX for a custom tune, you'll get no added horsepower. Most people feel they get better fuel economy/faster, but that's just a placebo from the extra noise you hear. (not trying to dissuade you from doing it, but setting expectations).

I'm In Mesa, I don't have my Patriot anymore but still go off roading, if you have a 4x4 and would like to hit some trails you can do int your patriot, let me know! there are a lot of fun places you can go that the patriot is totally capable of handling.

As AIC states, not worth your time = placebo.

But welcome aboard! How did you find the Patriot for room when camping? By yourself or did others come?

I find that the Patriot has more then enough space when I go camping with mates and we are all in individual vehicles, but to go camping with the other half we need to use every nook and cranny to pack our stuff ... including the 6x4 trailer.

I'm in Phoenix, near Metrocenter. Unfortunately, my Patriot is FWD so I'm not sure if it would handle off-roading very well, but I'm willing to try! Haha

I've read much about the custom ECU but I'm not ready to break the bank yet. I knew there wasn't much I could do, but you're saying there's really nothing that can be done without selling my right arm?

Aside from performance, any recommendations for exhaust, in terms of sound? Gotta enjoy my ride some way lol..

Here's what it looks like atm..

First off, welcome!

Now your question depends on what you call off-roading. FWD can handle light off-roading just fine, as in trails or even open country. Its not going to climb a hill in loose gravel or take on a mountain pass in a bilzzard. But if you're going down to the riverbank to go fishing don't worry about it. Check out the 4X2 forum. There are quite some stories in there. I contributed one myself.

PS, if you're going off-road, getting good/appropriate tires will help a lot. Lots of advice on here about tires -- everyone has an opinion!

My daughter lives in Phoenix. She’s stationed at Luke but lives downtown. I’m hoping to make it out there in May.

Much thanks, BLK! I was with the family; wife and daughter, dog in tow for camping. Surprisingly, everything fit, with room for the pup to lay! I was hoping not to use the roof rack haha.

I don't plan on going through any blizzards here in Arizona.. lol :wink2: but definitely will look into the 4x2 forum for some trails and advice. I'm nearly ready to get rid of these skinny 205's and replace with 220 or 225's so i'm heading over there next lol! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Ignatz, definitely feeling welcome here :smile2:

Looking forward to the new adventures!

Hey all,

A relatively inexpensive thing to try is replacing the stock air filter with a drop in high flow air filter like this one:

https://www.morris4x4center.com/high-flow-replaceable-air-filter-2-0l-2-4l-k-n-kn-e1998.html

The theory is it lets in more air which in turn the computer allows a denser fuel/air mixture thus better engine performance.

I installed one in my Jeep XJ and it DID make a noticeable improvement in performance.
The biggest improvement was drastically reducing to the point of eliminating bogging/hesitation at full throttle from a stop.

Haven't installed one in my Pat yet so i don't know if it'll make a difference if any. Maybe next Spring.

I would not recommend getting a high flow filter which requires oiling it after cleaning. The oil can mess with the MAP sensor.

If you try this don't expect a quantum leap in HP.

Side note:
The filter in the link i provided requires oiling after cleaning.
Try to find a drop-in high flow filter that doesn't require oiling.
The non-oil types can be vacuumed or washed in water-dried and good to go again.

An oil-less high flow is what i installed in my XJ.
