I'm only 33 and with a master degree in engineering! Just change them! It isn't like we have a transverse V6 or V8 engine that make it difficult to get to the rear bank plugs. My V8 pickup took 4 hours to change the plugs because the rear 2 are buried. Good thing they were double platinum and I could go 100k miles because that job sucked. I'd gladly change my Jeep's plug 10 times before doing that again.

The last set of plugs I had to change was a year ago on my Charger.
8-cyl. 2 per cyl. 16 plugs! I had to go to two different Autozone stores to find them all.

But that engine, like the Pat's, is easy to do. And I agree with APT. Cheap copper at 30k miles is better than expensive iridium or platinum at 100k miles.

Jeep has always specified 30K plug change intervals on their vehicles as long as I can remember. I thought it was b.s. and waited until about 40K to change them in my Commander. I took them out and they were pretty shot - gap was huge, so now I stick to the 30K interval.

A year ago I couldn't figure out why my CJ was running so badly. Plugs had huge gobs of yellow deposits on them and the gap had to be burned away to almost .1000!

But it still ran.......
