Hey gang.

I took my Pat in today to have them look at my tires. Since I bought it 2 weeks ago I'd been noticing a whomping sound coming from one of the fronts and was starting to get concerned since it hadn't dissapated since the first day.

Guy at the dealer just called and said the internal belt was damaged...which seems a little nuts for a brand new car. Guessing maybe a defective tire?

Anyone else ever experience something simmilar with their Goodyear wranglers?

I haven't experienced that noise, I recently bought a 2017 Patriot. But I do know that there are different sub-models of the Goodyear Wrangler tire. Some are better than others. Sorry offhand I don't recall the Wrangler model on my Patriot, I could look at them tonight, but I do know they aren't one of the better sub-models. I'm likely to buy a better set of tires at some point.

Belts do have problems and your symptoms are exactly what you would get. I've had it happen a few times. That thumping can make you worry but on a new vehicle its unlikely there's anything wrong other than the tires. Defects will happen.

I don't know what Wranglers you are running since GY puts Wrangler on a lot of different tires. I had some GY Wrangler RT/Ss that were awful, but it wasn't the belts, just lousy tires in snow (OEM on a Jeep sold in NH no less!). IMHO, the RT/S isn't really a safe tire; poor traction in rain and deplorable in snow.

I did have a defective belt on a GY Vector on my '84 Chevy Celebrity. The Vector was a decent tire otherwise.

Even longer ago I had a bad belt on my '68 Impala, but I've forgotten what those tires were. At the time I was in college and bought whatever was cheapest -- even ran retreads. Those tires might even have come on the car when I bought it used.

Just picked it up. Since I just got the Pat and there wasn't and visible damage to the tire it was replaced under warranty. Noise is gone, hooray!

And they were the stock Wrangler SR/A tires

That's good news! Glad you are happy with your latest Patriot. I'm a serial Patriot owner, too. Hard to break the habit; wonder why I'd want to.
