The seats of my 2009 Patriot are not flat at the shoulders and the
lumbar support is not wide enough. The result is that it rolls my shoulders
forward and when I hit a bump, my back goes out of place and I have
to go find a chiropractor. Love the vehicle, hate the seats. The
Rugged Ridge seats in CJs and Wrangles (Part number 13403) feel great
but can they be made to fit without major mods?

This can be largely a personal preference. (See link below)

I would not switch out the seats as that could become a safety issue unless the attachement is exactly the same. Perhaps an aftermarket lumbar support?

The seats in my Compass were great (cloth "YesEssentials").....FOR ME. Like 'homac' said, it's a personal preference.

I would think you would have found it uncomfortable when you took a 'test drive'........ :icon_rolleyes:

I have the LTD with leather seats, even though they are not the best seats out there, it is still relatively comfortable. The only comment is maybe just a tad soft?

I love the seats in my Riot. Of course, I have a completely average 5'10" body so I may not notice anything out of place. Are you very tall or short?

Nothing wrong with my seats! Only had to replace the Yes Cloth cover on my passenger seat at 20,000 miles under warranty as they began to come apart. Every 2 weeks I drive on an 8 hour road trip or longer... my back feels good :) Of course, I stop every four to fill up and stretch.

have no problems

Have an 07 sport with 54k miles on it.
Just came off a +4000 mile 2 week road trip and no complaints on the seats, many 12 hour stretches in the seats and could go longer if I could keep my eyes open

Just 'how tall' or 'how wide' are you guys? I'm 6'2" and about 275lbs. Like I said, my Compass seats were great. We had driven it twice from Indy to KC, stopping after 4 hours (like 'ilflya' said) to fill up and then on into KC. No problems with back, legs or anything else hurting.

My first trip I didn't have my cruise installed and that was kind of uncomfortable, but other than that, the MK was VERY nice on the road. :smiley_thumbs_up:

Gotta just be personal preference Phardog. I've had no problems with mine.

Swapping them out with aftermarket ones might be tough. I doubt there are any kits out to make em fit.

The forum wouldn't let me log in as phardog so I reregistered in order to continue. The
problem is that the seat is not flat across the shoulders. It is rounded which is very bad
for the back. They are built that way to shoehorn you in which has two advantages. It
keeps you from bouncing around and you take up less space. In response to Big Panda,
I didn't notice it until I got out on the road on a 300 mile trip. The last couple of hours
were excruciating. BTW I am 5'9" and weigh 200 lbs. I have broad shoulders. I'm glad
that most of you are not experiencing what I am. However, I am more interested in solving my problem so the ones I really want to hear from are those that have found solutions. Finally, as I go back over the reviews there seems to be a split. Some of
the (professional) reviewers like the seats and find them comfortable and some don't.
Looks about 50/50 to me. Hopefully, Jeep will offer an option. So far nothing.

Have you tried to recline the seat a bit? I love the seats personally, but seems as though I'm shorter and more narrow in the shoulders than you. I'm wondering if you are sitting too upright and it's contributing to your shoulders rolling forward. Otherwise have you looked into aftermarket seat cushions? They might fill in the space between the shoulder padding creating a more "flat" backed seat. Something like this?

Now they don't suck!

I took my Patriot down to Scott's in Tulsa. He shaved about an inch of
foam of off the side wings, put some more padding in the center and
snugged up the upholstery. He did a first class job for $125 and now
my back doesn't hurt. I still say that Jeep should have an alternative
ready though. I know I'm not the only one who has complained.

I thought i was the only one with that problem! At 6'3" and with reasonably broad shoulder i have incurred SERIOUS pain in my shoulders and back since using this vehicle as my daily driver (approximately 130 miles per day). I had ZERO such problems when using my 740il,325xi or VW Rabbit in the same role. I'm going to visit my local upholstery shop to explore a similar solution.

I just did a road trip from NH to IL with 4 adults and surprising nobody had any issues with the seats. I actually find them comfortable (especially in the winter, since I have heated leather seats) They are a lot more comfortable than my wifes Nissan Sentra!!!
