MY leak problem and solution
Hello all,
WOW sorry for the novel! Scroll to the last few paragraphs find out my cause and solution,
This is my first time post. I have found this site very helpful with dealing with my water leak. Thank you everyone who has posted on this subject. So I think I should tell everyone what my water problems were ant its solution.
Back story,
I have a 08 patriot no sun roof. Just celebrated 1 year anniversary.
So for a number of months dating back to last fall ('08) I thought I was imagining the occasional drip in the hatch area. I brushed of the water in the back as just moisture from opening the hatch. So this spring water leak has gotten much worse. Finding the dome light full of water then roof liner wet around dome light.(winter may have contributed causing the problem to get worse). Same crap were all complaining about. Sent it to dealer twice, they say they have fixed it. But the leak keeps getting worse. Heavier the rain fall heavier the leak.
Dealer gets third of looking at it and send me to the local body shop. ( my dealer doesn't have its own). This is actually good for them and me. For the because the body shop charges $55 an hour in stead of the$98 /hr at the dealer. For me cause the body shop tells me they see various roof leaks all types of vehicles foreign and domestic.
So body shop tells me they think they see several problems with the weld around the hatch/ hinges/ that plug thing and the O ring around the washer fluid hose that our good body constructed the Hoover dam around on his pat. (Nice job by the way encouraged me to do my own investigating.)
Ok so Body shop lends me a car for the day(bonus) and sands down the weld and re weld / seals everything and repaints everything. Great job I'm so Happy. Take it home. THAT NIGHT THE WORST STORM YET! I so excited in the am to got look at my nice and dry cargo area.
WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I find almost 2 liters of water in the cargo liner(so glad I have that).
So I start thinking of the Hoover dam and start my own investigation with the garden hose. and locking my twelve year old in the back with instructions the scream if she starts to drown from the leaky roof.

epper:
So I start by soaking the rear gate for a good 10 minutes nothing from the child.
I slowly clue in that my driveway is on an incline and that perhaps should try soaking near the front of the roof which is higher.
Slowly working my way back to the front trying to spray small areas at a time. Finally get to the front of the roof rack and the jeep starts rocking back and forth. Bingo.
I opened the back to find my child dripped on but with her head above water.
So it turns out that water on my pat was leaking in through the roof rack seals. slowly making its way back to the rear dome light thanks to the incline.
No I haven't put anything on the roof rack.
Dealer sends me straight to the body shop.
Body shop removes and reseals the roof racks. Glad to say after several rain falls and hose test I'm still nice and dry.
I love my INFERNO RED Jeep Patriot
