I've got a friend who is a recent employee and once he puts in his 90 days we're both thinking of buying with his code.

What can we expect to save here? I know it's 3% under for him and cost for me... but what is cost typically? Say for a fully loaded 4X4 without nav. What is the experience of any buyers out there?

And how does this work? we'll both order so do we bring a spec sheet say "i want that" the dealer orders it and bang you're done???

He just doesn't want to step over his bounds as he just started and I want to know now now now hahaha thanks all!

Well I ordered mine and we saved almost $2,000! I don't work for Chrysler I do work for a company that services them so we can get the discount! For us we had to get on the website that I work for and get a code, or you can go into the dealer and they will get the code for you, either way will work and just tell them what you want!! The best thing is to bring in the built sheet off of www.jeep.com when you build and price and give that to your sales person. Make sure you double check their sheet when you order it!!! So I hope this helps you out!

I don't work for Chrysler and I got 3% under with 3 free tanks of gas, free touch up paint, and $1 oil changes for life :) The $1 oil change is a promotional thing through dealer, I must get all the maintance/rotation at scheduled intervals to get the $1 oil change. Your best bet is to call 3 dealers and find which will go the lowest. Don't waste your time viisting the dealership.

I work for an affiliate, and just got mine for about 6% off of MSRP. Affiliate pricing is different from employee pricing, but its still good. You can save about $2000 from MSRP. I'm not sure what the policy is with employee or affiliate pricing. Some automakers allow eligible employees to share the discount with friends and family; others only family.

Apparently he can get cost minus 3% for direct family and can get cost for 5 friends every year. I was surprised, I thought that was generous of Chrysler!

Richie 5120> did you get 3% under MSRP, dealer invoice, or cost?

6% under seems a little short doesn't it... so many people claim to be doing better than that without the code. I'm sure the affiliate deal can't be THAT different.
any thoughts???

The dealers set a fixed firm price on the car - he just needs to go to his local dealer with his EC number and tell the sales man what he wants.

The benefit to the PIN number is you don't have to hassle over the price of the car with the dealer. It really makes buying a new car painless.

3% under edmunds invoice which is about a few hundred under dealers.

I don't think Chrysler would offer 3% under cost. That would be silly. I don't think you get less than dealer invoice either. The dealer will still get paid by Chrysler to make the sale BTW.

I think employee pricing is dealer invoice plus a small fee.

To my understanding, they price the base cost of the car at about 5% under MSRP for employees, and the offer a larger discount on the accessories. The more you load up the car, the more you save.

Actually you do save 3% under dealer invoice.

I just purchased one in Canada with an employee choice discount.

Here is how it works, there are three options....

First Option) Employee gets the best discount which is under dealer invoice and its for him, once per year.

Second Option) The Employee can give "ONE" discount away a year to a friend called employee choice, this is 3% under dealer invoice. Just go to the dealer, tell them you have an "employee choice" discount and they will actually give you their cost sheet for buying the car. There isnt any haggling, except really if you're buying from one lot or another, they can throw in mud flaps, bug flaps, floor mats, etc.. but its one price, its coded right into their invoice sheet..

Third Option) The third options the employee can give is up to six regular discounts which isnt much off the sticker.

Get the employee choice certificate, the employee actually needs to give you the actual certificate , one time use.

We bought an 07 off the lot, totally loaded.

The sticker price was $29235 CDN Dollars plus 14% CDN Taxes
The dealer invoice on this thing was around $27600
We paid $26817 and we got another $500 for grad rebate which comes after taxes are applied,

Well, my experience was different, but there may be different programs as canadianeh points out. As I said above, I'm an affiliate and not an employee. They showed me the invoice which showed "MSRP" and "DLRP". The employee price on the invoice I saw was the same as the "DLRP". However, the dealer still gets a cut of the sale from Chrysler and this cut is "negotiable". More than one dealer offered up some of this to make the sale "today". I got a little below the "DLRP" too - but that was a haggle and not the "program" as I'm aware of it. (So I guess what I said wasn't entirely accurate)

Anyways, I wouldn't count on a fixed % off of the MSRP. It depends on the options. The price reduction on the options is more than the 5% off the base vehicle, so the more options the vehicle has the more you can save off the MSRP. If you're eligible for the program, you can ask the dealer to show you an invoice with the DLRP numbers - look at the options - look at the discount on any one option - the % savings on all options is the same. Once you know this, you can figure out the savings on any vehicle with different options.

In my case I bought and got (employee discount from my friend who works at Chrysler) a bit more then 6% off MSRP and a bit more then that on each option I get adding to out JEEP. Saved about 2000$. The point is, in this case the dealer still gets some sort of 'push money' from Chrysler for selling the vehicule. If you are a good negociator and tell them you will shop a all the dealers till you get the best price, you will get pretty much the same deal or get free stuff which comes to the same bottom line. Have fun shopping!!!

My dealer gave me cost + 25$. They get a 'push money' amount from Chrysler in this case. My good friend is the Quebec (Canada) sales manager and gave me this deal. I gave just a bit below 7% off. Take care and congrats on your purchase!

The official word from Chrysler:

This offer even includes the stylish Chrysler PT Cruiser, the rugged Jeep Liberty, and the all-new Dodge Ram 2500. This great savings opportunity may also include consumer rebates available at the time of sale.

I'm not a Chrysler employee, BUT

I received a notice in the mail today that I am eligible for Chrysler's "Preferred Price" Affilicate Rewards due to my membership with USTA (United States Tennis Association). According to the coupon thingie, I can get "1% below factory invoice" if I order by 12/31/07.

Okay, I got all excited when I read "factory invoice." Is this what I'm thinking...not dealer invoice, but something better? Or are these terms interchangeable? At any rate, this is completely unexpected and I'm jazzed about the prospect of not having to haggle to get a decent price.

Thanks!

I work for an affiliate as well and had to sign up for a "Friends of Fleet" program with DC. I received a price of 1% over invoice. I bought an '08 4x4 and got close to $2000 off. I had to bring in my PIN number and show them company ID. They confirmed I wasn't lying and then there was no negotiation involved. Best part is that the Patriot wasn't part of the Employee Pricing summer discount that ended Aug 31.

It did take a little bit of time for the dealer to figure out how my discount worked and, since I was there on a Saturday, they had to wait for the Monday to confirm the price, but it all worked out in the end.

Thanks for the reply, Smartliketractor. What a great deal! I have another question that I hope can be answered here...I would like to add a few dealer-installed options to the Pat (e.g., iPod integration, mud flap installation, etc..). Would dealer-installed options such as these be considered as part of the overall "Preferred Price" deal, or would they be considered separate from the special pricing?

I did a little more digging re: dealer invoice vs. factory invoice and there does seem to be a difference (at least according to "carbuyingtips.com"). Apparently, Factory invoice is the Invoice Price - Factory Holdback - Factory-to-Dealer Incentives.

So excited about this development. I was already beginning to stress about the whole negotiation thing even though I hadn't planned on making the purchase until December or February.

Thanks again.

I'm interested in finding this out as well. I want to have the dealer install UConnect, fog lamps and splash guards on mine when I order in Nov. We'll be receiving the Preferred Price through Hubby's employer...so we'll already be saving a bit there. But the more we can save, the better...

Okay, I stopped by the local dealership this afternoon to ask about the dealer-installed options when using a Preferred Price plan. According to this one salesman, the dealer-installed options will not be considered part of the Preferred Price plan. Now, I didn't really have a good feeling about this guy and would have preferred to speak with the saleswoman I had previously dealt with, but she was with another customer so I was stuck with him. I didn't want to engage in a long conversation, so I asked 2 or 3 questions and left.

Me: Does your dealership honor the Preferred Price plan? **holds up documentation/coupon**
Slick: Who do you work for?
Me: It's not from my employer, it's associated with an organization, USTA
Slick: Tennis?? Man, who else are they giving this to?
Me: :)confused:)
Slick: Yes, we honor the Preferred Price. But it depends upon what vehicle you want.
Me: Jeep Patriot. It qualifies for the Preferred Price; it's on the affiliate rewards website.
Slick: Well, it depends. We wouldn't let it apply to a Wrangler, but the Patriot qualifies. [I just looked at the affiliate website and both the Wrangler & Unlimited are listed as part of the Preferred Price plan. If I had known this, I would have made him clarify that the dealership was basically cherry-picking from the plan which vehicles they were willing to discount. So it's not just a matter of does the dealership participate in the plan or not, but also which (popular, high profit) vehicles do they want to exclude from the approved list so that they can maximize their take).
Me: Okay.
Slick: Do you have any other questions?
Me: Yes. Do you consider dealer-installed options as part of the Preferred Price deal or would you price it separately?
Slick. We would charge MSRP/retail for those.

My impression from talking to this guy is that if you're able to find a dealer who will honor the Preferred Price plan, don't assume that the particular vehicle you're interested is on their 'approved' list. I still want to talk to the saleswoman before I give up on the dealer-installed options thing...and I'm curious what she has to say about which vehicles at her dealership qualify for the Preferred Price plan.

With respect to the dealer-installed options, maybe this can be another bargaining chip...if the local dealer won't include the options with the Preferred Price, go to the next dealer and see if they will. Plus some free oil changes. ;)
